I think there would be daily fights over who got to blow the horns. And the bridge would be very crowded as the whole crew would want to take turns at the helm.

Me thinks we might see some fights over who gets to "ring the bell" too

Everyone will be issued with their own designated whistle chord, ship's wheel and bell to polish... that should prevent any fights.
But seriously, that's why a real crew works on scheduled watches, so that everyone gets a chance to stand watch on the bridge.

I'll be more than happy to just be a Deck Ape (loading my cars and trucks like Tonka toys and HotWheels...); underway, I'll just sweep the decks and chat with the truck drivers -- I'll leave the steering, whistle blowing and bell polishing to the more highly qualified crew members!

Me thinks we might see some fights over who gets to "ring the bell" too Really? Where I'm from, 'ringing the bell' is an euphemism for striking the dock so hard, the sudden cessation of the vessel's forward movement causes the clapper to continue moving forward of its own accord, striking the rim and thus 'ringing the bell.' I do hope that isn't what we're talking about here.

An update on crew assignments: Apparently, I'm not allowed to sentence Donella to time in the void spaces anymore (although I can't really remember ever doing so), so, instead, she'll be taking the crow's nest watch for a period of time that has no forseeable end. Have fun up there, Donella, and don't get too cold...

Are you trying to say that she has assumed the ultimate voyeuristic position aboard the ship and has absolutely no intention of giving up that position?

Since he practically begged, I've updated the crew list to include Ian as 2nd Steward, so that he can act as cruise director.

I'm relieved now... Since there's a grinch around on the forum these days, I see no real need to continue the role of ferry villain (I don't want to give him any competition). Hence, I changed my header text to reflect my Queen of Richmond crew rank instead. The choice of words is not my own, though, it's a phrase from a book by a favorite author of mine who has written many nautical themed adventure stories.

Just thought I'd put out in the Open...
I think we need to decide on a 2nd Vessel to use when the Queen of Richmond is in refit or to use at Holiday times. Anyone have any ideas? Is there a Mainland or Island Location that hasn't been used?

Is there a Mainland or Island Location that hasn't been used? What...?!!! The Queen of Richmond never goes in for refit. But... I'll give you two choices anyway: gleaned from past misnomers on this forum you can either have the Queen of New Nanaimo, or, my own creation, the Queen of Squamish.

Ugh. Not the Queen of Squamish. She hasn't been run in years, so it would take some time to get her going again. The plume of smoke that would come out of the funnel after the first start up, would allow for a massive amount of complaints from the neighbors who live near her home port of Darrel Bay, just south of Squamish. Some of the local youths have also gone aboard to have a few Friday night parties on board. So the Stewards and Deckhands would have a fun time cleaning those passenger decks. All of the money made from collecting the empties must go to my fund of upgrading my armchair Captain courses.

How about the Queen of Castlegar? The galley could be contracted out to Weezie's Borscht Hut.

I believe there was an error when they were building the spirits, and when they built it they were left with extra parts so they built the Spirit of Spuzzum

Sorry... you only have two choices for ships... either that, or we can rent a fishing trawler when the ship is in refit.
And there is also no Spirit of Hartley Bay.

And there is also no Spirit of Hartley Bay. For those who are unfamiliar with her, she sank quietly in an unknown spot of the Inside Passage around the time the MV Sonia was Renamed. So far I'm liking our chances with the rarely used and vandalism prone Queen of Squamish. But don't worry, if something goes wrong, the Queen of Spuzzum can always tow us to our destination in a few hours.

I'll definately go for the Queen of New Nanaimo ;D Is she some sort of long lost twin sister to the Queen of Alberni (in her original format), or what is her deal?
