I think the National Post is slightly misrepresenting the situation for shock effect. Just because the navy speaks to a Dutch yard you can't leap to the conclusion they are going to build there. However, the fact they are speaking to them is interesting. It is conceivable that the Navy could buy the design and rights to a ship and have it built here as well.

I don't know how long we can continue to fall behind and then play a very expensive catch up. Many of the European nations now have low visiblilty stealth type ships well developed where Canada has none. Maybe we could manufacture under license or something here. Similar to what Bombardier has done with TGV in France for the Acela train.
