No Canadian highlights yet, but I'm still watching.

Glad the Olympics are on and enjoy the fact that they are many time zones away. My sister and I started the all nighter tradition back in 1998 with Nagano games. Thank goodness the CBC is showing the games live. Many american chat friends who are able to get CBC television are watching that network as NBC is showing limited live action and mostly tape delayed stuff. Many claim the NBC decision to not go live is if it is not live...... then No Body Cares.

Yeah, I'm stuck with their BS down here and I can't even watch the CBC coverage on-line due to copyright blackouts. Fortunately, I have found NBC's on-line coverage is much superior to their TV coverage...and I had to laugh how they have been trying to make it seem like they are reporting live even though so far they have been on a 12hr time delay! I do have to say...who cares what George and Laura are talking about, the games aren't about them ;D.

That is probably the only thing keeping me to my current cable company is that they carry CBC. In fact, I'd be half tempted just to get a Bell ExpressVu box to get CBC. However, I hear the broadcasting rights for 2010 go to CTV next year. Wonder if they are going to turn it into C*r*a*p Television like NBC

...However, I hear the broadcasting rights for 2010 go to CTV next year. Wonder if they are going to turn it into C*r*a*p Television like NBC CTV was the Canadian broadcaster for the 1988 Calgary winter-games. They were horrible, showing what happens when a network with limited sports broadcast talent wins the bidding for a major sporting event. CTV used Lloyd Robertson (national news anchor who needs to retire) for their Olympic broadcast host, and he was of Eddie-Edwards quality. At least with 2010, Rogers Sportsnet will also be involved in broadcasting, so there will be on-air talent that has experience and expertise in sports broadcasting. And we can only hope that Steve Armitage won't somehow jump-ship to CTV for 2010.... ;D

Oh god, anyway CBC is coming to America and to buyout NBC broadcasting rights? I wonder what would happen if you opened up the floor to two major stations for Olympic coverage cause NBC's coverage is horrible at best on TV. Way too much commentary and commercials and way too focused on the U.S. athletes. It is sad the VANOC awarded rights to CTV.
Anyways, back to the topic at hand. For the western country team uniforms during the opening ceremonies, on a scale of 1 being horrible and 10 being awesome, how do you rate the uniforms from the opening ceremony?
My opinion, 1, especially with the United States (I don't care if Im from the country, the uniforms were terrible) I mean, how low can you go with dress or should I say overdress?

OHHHH NOOOO. I just realized Rod Black will likely be making his stupid comments all through the 2010 broadcast.
*The new CBC Bold is interesting. They showed the complete Dresage competition (horses doing the fancy riding patterns for us nonhorsey types). they explained very well all the differences and what the judges were looking for. All of a sudden that area of sport began to make sense. It isn't as big of an interest for me and I needed to go out, so didn't watch long. But a good commentator who just did that and explained things rather than just gushed over their own athletes was a key part.
The other time I found CBC Bold interesting was the last skating championships. They actually aired everything from beginning to end. No hightlights. You saw the up and coming skaters and then towards the end the higher ranked skaters. Not just highlights and hand picked people for ratings. Now if that was possible for the olympics, you could pick what disciplines you wanted to watch and get all the details and the whole competition - that would be really cool. I don't have a hookup to run the streaming online video to the Plasma TV or I guess that would be possible.
Ron Maclean in my mind is a consumate gentleman and a great anchor of the CBC's coverage. I have met him at a number of charity events here in Toronto and he seems like the same person in real life as on air. A number of years ago I got an especially great rate at the Westin Bayshore because the tower elevators were being ugraded and service was very slow. Frankly I didn't notice. All the Hockey Night in Canada people were in town for meetings. Chatting in the Bar that used to be Trader Vics everynight was fun. And was my first indication that they were class acts.

Tell me about it...I don't know how many of you watch the replay of the opening ceremonies on NBC Friday night, but I, for one, couldn't believe how over-produced NBC's pre-encore spiel was...

I stayed up late last night to watch Men's Volleyball. Both because it is one of my favourite olympic sports and also after the tradegy of the inlaws of the American coach I wanted to see the team do well. So it was NBC for the first time. The commentators weren't too bad, not overly cheerleaderish . But then that is just one small part of the coverage.
