The forum chat has been a little dull lately. So to spicen things up, here's a thread to ask some questions, and get some answers. The type of questions will be as follows. I was sitting in the forward lounge of the Queen of Vancouver last night and I was started to study the Queens picture, and noticing the outline around the current picture posted there. The paint lines show a picture that was once posted, which was slightly larger than what we see there today. I believe this was due to the fact that the Queens picture was removed like it was on other vessels, but there was and uproar about that when people started to notice. Of course with paint lines like this, how could you not notice something was missing. Then under those paint lines, there was lines in the shape of a circle. I can only assume that this was where the ships clock once was? Take a good close look for yourself. Then I took my studies down to the cardeck, and was reminded of the outlines of car deck windows that were once there. These would have been windows that existed back in the days of the ships un-lifted days. I can find weld lines in the exact same areas on all of the Seven sisters, so it's not unique to a specific ship. Yet I cannot seem to find any photos of there being windows in these areas. Feel free to post more things like this

This is a wild guess, especially since those features are found on the upper cardeck on the Van, but could those possibly be outlines from the round porthole windows they originally had on the cardecks?

What you have shown, I'm afraid are not the original car deck portholes prior to the lifting procedure. As you can see from the attached picture of the Vancouver during this procedure, the original portholes are below the horizontal cut line. Also, when on the main car deck if you look closely, you can see the outline of the welded porthole windows. If memory serves me right, the only windows on the car deck V class prior to lifting, were these sealed portholes. Perhaps what you show were a former vent.... If you are referring to the rectangular openings, some did have them, but they were only temporary, for installing machinery or something along those lines. They were never open during service. Though the B class have them now, the V's did not prior to lifting.

The portrait question is easier to answer--the original portrait on the Van was a larger and rather unforgettable shot of the Queen from the 1960s with an incredibly stilted smile. This picture stayed with the vessel until the removal program. This current portrait would be the hasty replacement, and as we know, interior repaints for the two Vs are not a huge priority at this point.
