Has anyone heard how the Harmac mill is doing since the employees took over ownership of it ?

The mill has 1 line in operation at this time with a second line planned to start either later this year or early next year. Harmac just shipped its first shipment of pulp days ago. I was onsite at the end of September so they could get the required maintenance completed to get it operational. The employees that are running it are many of the longtime employees and I think it is in good hands. There is a steady supply of chips coming into the mill so their fibre supply is good... for the time being. Fibre supply is an issue that fluctuates. From what I understand, Harmac has always been very cost efficient compared to other mills. Pope & Talbot was funneling money from both the Harmac and Mackenzie mills to make the Halsey Oregon mill (just down from the P&T head office) look good. Harmac had a $70 million dollar emergency maintenence fund that was empty when the books were opened up. As long as Harmac remains under the control of the current consortium of owners (Pioneer Log Homes, Totzauer Holdings, Sampson Group and the Harmac Employees) then it should do well. If another company like Catalyst, Domtar, West Fraser or Canfor were to get there hands on it, I believe it would spell disaster for it. If I had the money and the chance, I would be a shareholder of this company based on what I have seen over the years and especially this last outage. Harmac does have a new website... www.harmacpacific.com Moderator Edit: Fixed URL.

Thanks for the info ProudCanuck. It sounds like Harmac boys are headed for a prosperous future, I wish them all the best.
