Today, I'm proud to announce that I've passed my car curse on to one of our Mods, Jordan aka Coastal Skier. Today he decided to take his Grandmother car out for a spin, seeming it hadn't been out for a few weeks. So him and I met up at the Cleveland Dam in North Van, and we went for a stroll out to Horseshoe Bay, where we got then got the idea to go out to Deep Cove. As we pulled of Hwy 1 at the Main St ramp, I asked Jordan, "Hey Jordan, would it be alright if we stop by Tim Hortans and grab a drink? I'm feeling pretty thirsty". He agrees, and we pull off at the Tim Hortans near the Allied Shipyard. This proved to be a big mistake, because when he went to go and start the car, the battery was dead. Nobody around us had Jumper Cables. After Jordan said some Swear Words that I've never heard before, we decided to walk to the nearest Gas Station. Finally, one of the Store Clerks kindly gave us a ride back to the Timmys we were parked at to give us a jumpstart with his vehicle. From this point on, we decided not to go to Deep Cove, but to just head home. I'm still angry to say I'm still not out of the loop yet. Todays big expensive service appointment has discovered some more issues with my car. So to be safe, I'll be taking my moms car to Tsawwassen tomorrow. Stay tuned for yet another crazy episode of "The Adventures with Chris and Jordan..."

So now It's now come to my attention that it needs a new battery. When I got home I turned it off, tried to start it again and the engine didn't turn oh well I guess that's what happens when you drive a Ford, Found on Road DEAD!

(As usually happens with old batteries..) Don’t get me on the Ford argument!

If the battery is not getting charged, it won't start the car ;D. Did any of the "idiot" lights come on? Oh, and I drive a Ford Ranger, and it has over 300K on it with no major problems so far (knocks on wood.....)

Batteries don't wear out in any other make of car at all. Or flashlight, or cell phone, or IPod...

Before I take my next trip west, is there something I should be doing to prevent catching the Ferry Geek Curse. Don't want my rental car to die on me on in line for the Ferry. Or worse be one of those people who's car won't start on the ferry, delays the sailing and has to get towed off with everyone in line glaring at them. Extra vitamins? Or is there a shot for it? I hate to tell you Chris, whatever you are doing isn't working . Maybe a few weeks before I will just pretend I don't care anything about ferries and hope the curse will pass me by.

I think, this qualifies as a member announcement, even if I'm not getting married or anything.
But I am debuting a new avatar as of this evening.
So here's the Mill Bay Avatar Challenge.
This is a figure of B.C. mythology who is just as emblematic as the ferries.
I'll give a K-Class to anyone who can guess what year this individual dates from, the Tachek to anyone who can guess the event he was mascot for, the Tsawwassen for anyone who can get his name and spell it right...
A B-Class for anyone who might be able to guess my real name (who doesn't already know it) through referencing this individual (and spell it right), and the whole BCFS fleet to anyone who could actually pull a photo of him out their archives...

Expo Ernie. He likely made his debut in late-1985, to promote Expo-86. And he was omnipresent during the 1986 Expo world's fair. And your name is Ernie, too.

You got all the answers Flugel, even the spelling... I was actually counting on that, but you already knew who I am so I'm not sure I'll give you the fleet, actually... it doesn't really belong to me anyway. But I just loved having a mascot name after me, and Expo just drove my imagination wild because of all the transportation displays there.

This thread has reminded me why I almost always bused out to ferry otings; I think I am going to do another SailPass adventure in January, so I guess I will need my car for that! Although, I walk onto most routes to just do a quick round trip.

I didn't feel this was worth creating a new topic, but I still felt that I may as well announce it to some sort of degree... I've finally purchased a new Camera, which is a HUGE step up from what I had before. It's a Nikon D60 SLR, and am impressed with the outcome so far. I couldn't resist, and had to take it out for a test run today. So here's some photos of the Darrel Bay Ferry dock, and a bit of scenery in my area. www.flickr.com/photos/ferrymanbcpix/

Wow, that's a nice camera. Sounds like it is the step up from the D40x, which is the one I was considering before I bought my Canon.
You'll be able to get some great shots now.

Alrighty folks, I know this is a little far in advance, but...
My family and I will be going on a cruise this August to Alaska on Royal Carribean. I won't disclose the ship name and time that I'll be travelling, but I am willing to inform you that we will be travelling to Alaska, via Juneau, Sakgway and a glacier.
The reason I wanted to disclose this so early, is to take any photo requests that people wanted from Alaska. Whether this be glacier pictures or ferry pictures, it doesn't really matter.
Contact me via PM or MSN, or just post it here...

I am gone for 3 weeks starting mid August up to Alaska via BC Ferries and Alaska State Ferries going via Prince Rupert Ketchikan, Petersburg, Juneau, Wrangel, Haines and ending in Skagway. I will be taking lots of photos of the ferry trips but I will be also be carefully of taking photos on Alaska State Ferries. There will be a whole bunch of cruise ships in Skagway when I arrive on the ferry so I am looking forward to seeing that and of course Alaska and the Yukon.

Cool trip NewFlyer's cruise sounds great, too. Alas, I'm not doing any cool ferry and/or cruise trips this summer. I am driving to California at the end of June for a family event. Maybe I can make it over to San Francisco for a day and take pics of some of their passenger-only ferries.

As I mentioned earlier on the solo ferry trips thread, I too, along with family, will be doing an Alaska ferry trip. This will be in early July southbound from Skagway to Prince Rupert as follows:
- We will take the MV Columbia from Skagway to Ketchikan, leaving Skagway on July 7th. - We will arrive in Ketchikan on the 9th, layover for half a day, and then catch the MV Taku for an overnight trip to Prince Rupert.
I hope to get 'a few' photos of ferries & cruise ships in Alaskan waters, as well as the coastal scenery. If you have any requests, 'PM' me.
We may need to create an 'Alaska Ferries photo thread' to 'host' all the photos that I, Karl and 'New Flyer' will be coming home with.
