I will be disappearing temporarily for the next 10 days or so. I am heading out to the Canadian Rockies for 10 days of hiking & camping. We have no plans for riding on any ferries....
In August we will do another trip to Vancouver Island which will involve some ferry trips.
PS - Note to moderators - not sure if this post belongs here. You should consider making a spot for members to make 'announcements' such as this; explanations for why they are about to disappear for awhile, etc.

From Today at 7:30 AM to the 20th of this Month I'll be absent for travelling to the East in Ontario and Quebec. The only times I'd be online before the 20th would be if I found a computer during travel. Our route is Powell River-Comox by Ferry and Comox-Calgary-Ottawa by Plane, this route is reversed for the trip home.
On various days beyond the 20th and into August, We'll probably be heading up Powell Lake, anywhere between 1 to 5 days. I will post in my either my Avatar Sig or my Bottom Sig if we will be heading Up the Lake.
So I'm out for now. See you on the 20th!

An old hobby of mine that I really enjoy is filming and editing videos. I used to be out filiming as much as I could a few years ago, until my camera crapped out on me on our Garibaldi II forum trip in January 2006. I really missed being able to use a video camera on Ferry trips, vacations, etc....so I finally went and purchased a new video camera last Sunday. I'm very used to the analog tape style camcorder, so this one is a huge upgrade for me. This camcorder requires no tapes or discs for storing videos. It has a built in 30 GB hard drive in it. It also has a Dolby Digital Stereo sound creator in the microphone, which will be ideal for recording our V-Class horns in Active Pass. So I'm really looking forward to this weekend to really put the camera to the test. I also bought a portable DVD burner for it as well, so once I'm finnished editing the video on the computer, I'll fire the file into the burner, and make some discs. Also will be ideal for sharing what will soon be memories for us, with the V-Class Ferries sailing through Active Pass. Last night I was anxious to test out the new digs, so I went down to Darrel Bay and did some filming. The picture quality of this video isn't the greatest, as I had to compress the video file in order to upload it to any website. The quality the camera actually produces is DVD quality footage.

Greetings From Toronto!
Here's the story so far. We boarded the Queen of Burnaby to Comox. We went over to the airport where we caught the plane to Calgary, and then from there to Ottawa. The next day we drove to Toronto getting there late in the afternoon and that evening went up the CN Tower. next day we toured the Legislature, Museum, and Casa Loma. The next day we drove to Niagara Falls. and today we went to the hockey hall of fame.
So now my minutes are running up so I gotta go!

Greetings from Ottawa! We've now completed our trip around Ontario and Quebec. We'll be home tommorrow! As for the trip... We travelled into French Canada to the Cities of Montreal and Quebec City. In Montreal we went to places such as Olympic Stadium and the site of Expo 67. In Quebec City we saw many historic places such as the Citidel, Legislature, and Old Quebec itself. As an up side for me, I rode the Ferry from Quebec to Levis and back. Great Ride! ;D And from there it was to Ottawa to tour Parliament and the Museums of War, Civilization, and Science and Technology. So now I sit here in our hotel at the free computer service updating myself. Tommorrow we fly home by WestJet from Ottawa-Calgary-Comox and then BC Ferries from Comox-Powell River. Back into the Rain Unfortunatly... Least we weren't here during the Heatwave. Though...would it have been any better here...Oh well. As for this post. Peace Out from Ottawa! See you Tommorrow!

Ha! I probably saw you fly in on your plane Curtis! And your ferry! I've been in Comox all weekend, situated near the flight-path for WestJet, and my ferry watching perch in Little River.

Heh, I might just happen to see you on Route 2 this Friday, Jim. My holidays start this weekend as well, and to spend some of it, I'm going back home, to Ladysmith. I'll see how things go that day, I might just go early Saturday morning, and spend the day in the lineup.

I'll be off to Comox on Sunday on Route 2 or 30, depending on how the lines look.
I'll be there until the 14th. (in comox, not in the ferry line)
Then, again I leave for the interior this time, on the 16th until the 26th.

I just returned from a cabin-resort vacation to "Point No Point", which is between Sooke and Jordan-River, on the Juan de Fuca strait.
Besides being a beautiful seaside cabin-resort, there was a great view of the Juan de Fuca shipping channel. Lots of container ships and bulk freighters, 4 cruise ships, etc.
I think I also saw an aircraft carrier, in the darkness. The lights looked like runway lights, and outlined the ship, which was otherwise in darkness.
We did a day-hike on part of the Juan de Fuca marine-trail, which was much like the west-coast trail in sections of up&down&up&down&up&down&up&down.
It occurred to me that this Island south-west coast area of Juan de Fuca would be a great place to watch the Coastal-Class ships arriving in BC.
ps: In continuation of a tradition of buying books from communities that we visit, I bought 2 books of interest from the Sooke Museum's book-shelf:
- "The Pacific Princesses", by Robert Turner. It's a large book, with lots of photographs & stories of the CP ships. I haven't started reading this yet.
- "Prince Ships of Northern BC" by Norman Hacking. This is a small 60 page book, that details the history of Prince Rupert and how it was tied to the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway. It gives history re the various Grand Trunk Pacific and CNR ships. A good, quick read.

Hi, everyone; I just returned this afternoon from a family camping trip in the Campbell River area. Unfortunately, we suffered a break-down about 40 km south of Courtney. Blown injector that got diesel all over our trailer. As if that wasn't enough, the winch on the flat deck wrecker let go sending our truck on a joyride into the tongue of the trailer mangling the bumper and bending the hitch. However, over the course of the week we got things all fixed up and still had some-what of a good time too. Glad to be home now WHEW!!!

Alright, hopefully this has cured the dreaded car curse that I've had ever since my car got in that fight with the cement column at the underground parkade at Horseshoe Bay...the cement column won...Why am I posting this here? Well, it all started at the tail end of one of our Group Ferry trips. On April 23, 2007, Scott, Karl, and Myself did a Circlepac on the Sunshine Coast. I had met Scott at Horseshoe Bay, and the journey started for me with Route 3 to Langdale. At the end of the Day, I came home on the 9:00pm sailing on the Queen of Coquitlam to Horseshoe Bay from Departure Bay. The Ferry was late, and I was concerned about getting stuck on the highway, as my window of opportunity to get home that night was closing fast, before the Midnight closure of the Sea to Sky highway. I'll admit, I was being cocky, and I backed out of the parking space I had parked in at the Parkade, and never really took the cement column right beside me, into account. CRRAACK BANG...."@&%&@(!("$&@($&". Needless to say, here's what it looked like. I was able to drive it home that night, but with the slightest bump, the front wheel would drag on the wheel well. The next day, my dad and I took the fender off, and did a quick temporary fix, by hitting the dent out with a hammer, and putting a rust coat of grey spray paint on, until I got it properly fixed. Not long after this happened, the hydralic tensioner holding my timing belt decided to give way while coming up the cut from the Second Narrows bridge in North Van. Graham (aka Retro) just happened to be with me at the time. Here it is, broken down at a Gas station, waiting for a tow truck to come. Graham jumped on a Transit bus from this point, and went home. A few weeks ago, I apparently ran over some glass on my way to Horseshoe Bay, for another one of these circlepac trips. By the time I switched the flat tire to the spare, I had arrive in Horseshoe Bay to find no parking whatsoever, and ended up watching my planned sailing of the Queen of Oak Bays 10:40am sailing, leave without me. I eventually bought a new fender and bumper myself, and it remained looking like this for about 3 months. This week, I was finally able to get a good deal on a paint job for the car, and I got to bring the car home, looking like new again.

Greetings from Massachussettes!! Yesterday morning I drove down to Portland Oregon, with some of my family, where we stayed the night at my Aunts house. At 4:00 this morning we were all awake, and driving to Portland Airport, to catch our 7:00am flight. I flew across the US on a 737-700 with Alaskan/Horizon Airlines 37,000 feet off the ground. Today was the first time I've ever flown anywhere. Flying over the Great Lakes was a neat experience for me. We arriving at Logan Airport at Boston 15 mins early at 3:00pm Eastern time. We were all pleasantly suprised when we came out of the Terminal to find a Stretched Lincoln Limo waiting for us...something that was arranged by another one of my Aunts by suprise. So we were driving in style all of the way down to Cape Cod, through the busy rush hour traffic in the new tunnels through Boston. I'll be out here for a week, and I have plans to go over to Marthas Vineyard and Nantucket Island at some point this week. I'll keep you all up to date if I get the chance. If not, stay tuned for the photos and videos once I return home, 9 days from now.

As we came into Boston, had to go out over the Atlantic Ocean a ways, and then do a tight turn back. It was clear blue skies out on the water, but there was litterally fog and dark clouds above the city. This morning I woke up to clear, blue, cloudless skies. Quite a contrast, after being on the West Coast yesterday morning. The leaves on the trees here haven't even changed yet. It seems like summer here still! ...aside from the cooler temperatures... I was out Ferry watching today, and did a boat cruise around Hyannis Harbour. I was on Hylines MV Viking, and we passed two of their passenger catamarans that go to Nantucket Island and Marthas Vineyard. We also passed SSA's MV Gay Head, and got a good glimpse of the MV Sankaty sitting in the dock. Stay tuned, you may see pics later tonight!

Chris if you get a chance eat at Legal Seafoods. Kind of the local hero - sort or halfway between White Spot and The Keg for BC. They are all over that area and have really good quality seafood.
