Looks bad - I read on one report that there were embers landing on the other side of the lake. I know a lot of people who live in that neighbourhood.

Was just talking to my family up in Kelowna. Apparently a house fire triggered it, since it got away with all the wind they've been having lately. My parents have a good view of it all from their place, directly across the lake in the area that burned in 2003. My folks recommended this site for updates www.castanet.net/

My Mom just provided another update, saying the fire is approaching Downtown Westbank. A third fire has also been started from the embers of the fire in Westside, which is closer to where the Bridge to Kelowna is. The Power is out from Westbank down to Summerland now as well. Pretty scary stuff.

Pretty scary stuff. A friend of ours phoned to see where my parents were, whether they are on the road near that area, or not. Fortunately they are not. They said that their daughter-in-law-to-be just had enough time to save the wedding dresses before the fire reached their house.

Being that I live here in the Kelowna area great views and shots available of the fire. The Glenrosa fire continues to hold between 350 and 400 ha while the Rose Valley fire grew from 100 to 150 ha over night. I will post shortly the shots of took yesterday of the smoke from all three fires. The Terrace Mountain this morning was approximately 850 to 900 ha.
I will post the images shortly.

OK - ministry of transport - put the Kaibosh on the Eldorado Marina to Peachland passenger ferry... BC politics definitely on the same level as Alberta

Ohhh sure there is! They have a number of recently fabricated barges with two tugs that sit beside the bridge doing nothing. Wouldn't be hard to throw a couple of lines to one of these babies, and load 'er up. There's boat lanches in those areas where the green line leads to on the map up above, so it would be perfect. Yeah! I hate to make it sound like I'm making a bunch of humour out of other peoples grief, but I couldn't resist with the tug/barge idea... Those are some spectacular photos, timmyboy. Here's a few photos my Mom took from the otherside of the lake where she lives (the area that burned down last time...) in the Mission hill area.

New Flyer, Coming to the Kelowna area shouldn't be a problem just let them know that coming through Kamloops to Vernon will be the easiest as coming across the Number 3 to Rock Creek has been really busy the last few days.
Nokian, The photo with the lake was taken at Bertram Creek Park which was in the middle of the fire. The flames almost hit the lake at this point. I worked on a house not a 5 minute drive from there after the '03 fire

Terrace Mountain fire in the Okanagan seems to have exploded this evening. They had it 90% contained, but now it seems out of control. www.kelowna.com/

My Mum sent me some photos from this afternoon. Apparently everyone living North of the Okanagan Lake bridge has been evacuated. Very unfortunate, since we have some friends who live near this fire. Anyways, here's the a stunning sight to behold.

Highway 20 is closed from Anahim Lake to Bella Coola, due to the Heckman Pass fire currently burning in the area. This fire started a few days ago, and the forest service was letting it burn because it seemed to be a small one. As we now know, fires are not necessarily a bad thing for the forest, so when they don't pose a danger to people, they let them burn. Apparently, the fire is starting to get a little bigger than they'd like, so they're starting a new attack strategy. bcwildfire.ca/hprScripts/WildfireNews/OneFire.asp?ID=289www.drivebc.ca/details.jsp?eventId=82819
