In May of 1993, I sailed on my first ferry from Tsawwassen to Departure Bay - the Queen of Alberni.
Today is the Jubilee Anniversary, and I'm closing in on every ferry in the fleet. Our vessels come and go, we saw several retirements within the past couple years, but one thing will always stay the same: how we travel.
Congratulations, BC Ferries.

My first ride aboard BC Ferries was in 1975. Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay. Aboard the then 192-car QUEEN OF VANCOUVER.
My most recent ride was aboard the QUEEN OF COQUITLAM on the Langdale run during the Olympics/Paralympics.
Vessels I have ridden aboard the BCF fleet are the: NORTHERN EXPEDITION POWELL RIVER QUEEN QUEEN OF SURREY II QUEEN OF COQUITLAM QUEEN OF COWICHAN QUEEN OF NEW WESTMINSTER QUEEN OF VANCOUVER QUEEN OF VICTORIA QUEEN OF TSAWWASSEN MILL BAY
In addition, I have ridden aboard two Canadian Pacific ships that would be eventually be run by the province of British Columbia: PRINCESS MARGUERITE II PRINCESS OF VANCOUVER
And, finally, the Spaulding US prototype of the BCF and AMH fleets: COHO
From Puget Sound, HAPPY GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY, BC Ferries!

[glow=red,2,300]Happy 50th, BC Ferries!!![/glow] In the 15 years that I've walked (or crawled) on this planet, I've been on the ferries more times than I can count, the first being when I was barely three weeks old aboard the ferry (not sure which one, sadly) from Tsawwassen to Saltspring Island. The last trip I've been on was little more than a month ago from Langdale to Horseshoe Bay aboard the Queen of Coquitlam. BC Ferries have served me well for as long as I've been here, and I hope I'm around for their 100th To date, I've set foot on the following ferries: BC FERRIES: (names in italic indicate ferries I added in my last post update) Bowen Queen Coastal Renaissance Coastal Inspiration Coastal Celebration Spirit of Vancouver Island Spirit of British Columbia Island Sky Kwuna Mill Bay Northern Adventure Northern Expedition Powell River Queen Queen of Alberni Queen of Burnaby Queen of Capilano Queen of Chilliwack Queen of Coquitlam Queen of Cowichan Queen of New Westminster Queen of Oak Bay Queen of Surrey Queen of Vancouver Queen of Saanich Stormaway III Tenaka Queen of Prince Rupert Queen of the Islands
That's 27 BC Ferries. I seem to remember being on the Queen of Tsawwassen on rte. 1, a long time ago... but that doesn't sound right at all. Same deal with the Klitsa. I think I might've been on her when she was serving in place of one of the Albion ferries. Long shots. Not BC Ferries: Klatawa Kulleet Prince Rupert Airport Ferry Burrard Otter Burrard Beaver Burrard Pacific Breeze Four of the Granville Island ferries. Barnston Island Ferry Carrier Princess Wahkiakum
That's 13. That's 40 ferries in total, with two maybes. Today, to celebrate BC Ferries' golden anniversary, I drove down to the Queen of Sidney in Mission to get some pictures and go up close to the big giant. There didn't seem to be anyone home, so I went right up close to her, almost close enough to touch ;D Well, BC Ferries, my wish for you in the next 50, is for you to get un-privatized and continue your next 50 just as good or better than your first. See you there for your 100th! I think I'll put my BC Ferries 50th anniversary sigpic here for all to see for those next 50 years, too: Luke the Canadian Viking, over and out. SHIP COUNT EDITED ON MAY 29th 2011

My list of ships ridden on would give me writter's cramp but the list of BC Ferries I've worked on is a lot shorter so I'll toss it into the anniversary thread as well. Worked on: ( This is going to date me ) Sechelt Queen Queen of Sidney Sunshine Coast Queen Queen of Burnaby Queen of New Westminster Queen of Nanaimo Queen of Prince Rupert Princess of Vancouver (while Burrard Shipyard repaired the wee hole we punched into the bottom of the QPR in 1967)....darn...where did that reef come from???

When I was young I unfortunately didn't kept track of which BC Ferries I sailed on.
It is safe to say I have been on every major vessel, the Spirits, C Classes and older back to the original 7 Sisters in the post stretching era (for those that were lengthened.)
I have never been on the Chili. And as of yet none of the Flensburg sisters or NorEx.
I have been on many of the minor vessels (including Mill Bay) but no clue which ones definitively. I have been on all the southern routes except for the one to Gambier (opting out on a trip my Mom and brother took). None of the Northern minor routes.
Outside of BC the list is long and I will just mention the routes rather than all the vessels. PEI to NB (and their strange looking ferries), Quebec City to Levis, Kingston to Wolf Island, Ottawa River (ON to PQ), Martha's Vineyard, WSF to Bremerton, Port Angeles, Anacortes, Toronto Centre Island ferries including the historic Trillium, Toronto Island Airport Ferries (2 except the newest one), NYC Staten Island ferries and numerous passenger ferries back and forth across the Hudson and East River, San Francisco, Catalina, Manatoulin Island, and I am sure other minor routes I can't remember offhand.
Routes I haven't been on but want to, include the Newfoundland ferries and Magdalen Island ferry. And of course the Alaska Marine Highway. I never sailed the Toronto to Rochester Ferry before its demise.

you know if I texted out every ferry i`ve been on that would be quite a list, even all the ones I have worked on would make a good list, so I would like to list my favourite free ferry ride, the Kootenay lake boats. there have been several over the years, Balfour, Anscomb, and lately the Osprey, the ride across the lake is the longest free ride anywhere, I think. perhaps the shortest was the Mclure where one of my best frends has retired, and my best day cheque came when I worked the Mill Bay ferry one Christmas day years ago when I was at uvic, and worked the spare board out of Swartz Bay. Three trips up north on the Queen of the North after my short lived working days on the QPR, and it`s short repositing trip back to tsawwassen with the late Capt. Jimmy Butterfield were among my favourites. among many memories of life on the coast! mr.dot.

I rode on my first ferry back in 1963 - gee, that's a long time ago. I have sailed on the many "Queens of" except the QPR, Queen of Chilliwack and the Queen of the Islands. I see the latter many times a week anchored in Burrard Inlet. I have a fondness for the Langdale Queen and the Sechelt Queen. As a kid living in Port Hardy towards the end of the 1960's, Our family sailed on the Island Princess. (long before the North prefix) I vividly remember the many killer whales we saw. My latest trips have been on the ever late Queen of Capilano for my work as a real estate photographer. I have a small virtual tour taken from the deck on one of my trips over. bowenislandrealestate.info/ferry.html

My list of current BC Ferries that I've Not been on has now been reduced from 4 to 3 (thanks to my ride on the QQII).
My not-yet list is now: - SOBC - Kahloke - Klitsa
I'm riding Klitsa in August....
