If no vessel fits, then what is the whole point?! Same reason as to why the Kwi-di Tabil ferries have a bicycle-mezzanine deck and ramps. - a bad design decision that turned out to be useless.

The Kwa-Di-Tabil ferries bicycle mezzanine is helpful for when the ferries operate on crowded routes as a spare vessel, as more passenger space

Your silly "Queen of Chilliwack service notice" fictional post is my reason to say "enough." There's a right way to do parody, and a wrong way. Wasting a bunch of forum members' time following-up a bogus service-notice thread is the wrong way. Come on back, in a few years...

They never load route 1 ships from berth 3 and if they do they use the car deck! I don't know what the point of that walkway is for!

Question, does anyone know when the parking, passenger departure/arrival area was completed? I know it was built in the 90's but I do not know the year.

Oh, and when was the current employee parking area built? Forgot about this second question. I suspect 2007 when the terminals booths moved south.

It was an ongoing project in various states of completion from about 2006 to around 2009. I'm pretty sure it was in its current configuration by the summer of 2009.

Oh, I see. Do you know what improvements were done and when they were completed?

This is an aerial photograph of Swartz Bay taken in 1961. It, and the others following, are from the provincial government by way of the University of Victoria library.

And finally, this one is from the mid-90s, with one of the spirits at berth 1.

This photo is from 1986. What ferry is in berth-4 ? 1986 is too early for Skeena Queen.

What ferry is in berth-4 ? 1986 is too early for Skeena Queen. Most likely one of the vessels brought in when the Dept. of Highways saltwater fleet was absorbed--possibly Quinitsa or Quinsam. I vaguely recall seeing a picture of one at Swartz Bay still painted in black-yellow livery, but can't remember where I found it.

Quinitsa superseded Bowen Queen as the regular ferry on route 4 until Skeena Queen took over. Quinitsa still wore the Dept. of Highways livery for awhile, I took quite a few trips when she wore those colours.

Quinitsa may have been used there for a period, but Bowen Queen definitely held down the fort until the Skeena Queen took over.

The approach to the small-ship side of Swartz Bay, with Carrier Princess and Skeena Queen arriving just before us. I'm on Queen of Cumberland, and this is evening of July 8, 2015 DSC09565 by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr

Curious Question, was it 2010 that Berths four and three were rebuilt and in 2012 that berth two and one were rebuilt in 2012?

Curious Question, was it 2010 that Berths four and three were rebuilt and in 2012 that berth two and one were rebuilt in 2012? Never mind I found the answer. And mistakenly said the wrong dates and berth numbers out of order. Oops. It was 2006 that Berth two was upgraded (for both spirit and coastal usage) and 2012 that berths five and four were done. Looking through historic imagery on Google Earth I found that berth three was unchanged but both the Coastal and Spirit were seen docked in that berth in a few images.

I find it really hard to belive that the parking at Swartz Bay is empty right now. The current conditions say the lot is 0% full. I take it this would be a mistake?? It has shown this all week. No other terminal shows 0% for parking. I find it odd.

It's been several years since I have been through Swartz Bay. It seems anytime I have taken a BC Ferry in the last few years, it's been on other routes, so it was kind of nice for me to get back to Swartz Bay and see what's changed there. I like the new passenger waiting areas for Berths 4 and 5 - well, new to me. Like I said, it's been awhile since I have been through here. So, here are some photos from Sunday, Oct 25, 2015: In line at Swartz Bay. We arrived at 10:10 to catch the 11:00 CCel sailing, and had no problem getting on. They did fill the boat and it looked like they left a bunch of cars, but not to worry - SOVI was sailing at Noon. SOVI in Berth 3 Skeena Queen arriving at Berth 4 the passenger shelter at Berth 4 is a nice addition departing Swartz Bay's Berth 2 on CCel Bye, Bye SOVI - looks like they were getting her ready to move over to Berth 1 for the Noon sailing We were even treated to a rainbow - seen from Deck 7 on CCel

Half of the foot passenger payment terminals have been changed to tap-to-pay for credit cards. Obviously this could speed up the payment process, but, the computer terminals they have put in them are painfully slow. Today I walked past all of them and touched the screen to wake them up, then went to an old terminal and paid by swipe. As my ticket was ejected from the terminal I paid at, the first tap-to-pay had just woken up.
A first world problem to be sure, but unfortunate to see an advancement being held down my something rather trivial.

anyone know the docking arrangements last night after the Coastal Celebration was tied up for the afternoon Coastal Rennaisance came in for her evening sailings at 5 and 9?
