So here we are once again, at the beginning of a new month with a new Forum Flagship photo as our header image. Now it's time to start looking for nominations for December. Please submit to me on this here thread, the best winter landscape with a snowy background of any Ferry you please. It can be any aspect, whether it's the Spirit of British Columbia sailing through Active Pass, with a snow covered Mathews Bluff in the background, or a photo showing two feet of snow on the Coastal Renaissance's outer deck, it doesn't matter to me. Just as long as there's snow somewhere in the photo. However snow capped mountains in the distance with green shores doesn't quite cut it. I think we're all hoping for a white Christmas. We're going to do the voting of this one a little differently this time. Instead of selecting just one photo for the entire month, we will select the top 4 best voted entries. Then each photo will recieve at least a week in the spotlight. Yes, the math doesn't quite add up evenly for all of the photos to be in the spotlight, so the leftover days of the month with be added to the top best voted entry. All of the other usual rules still apply. They can be seen at: ferriesbc.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=flagship&action=display&thread=3510Nominations will close at precisely 21:00 on November 29th, to allow a 24 hour period dedicated to voting.

The photo below is submitted on behalf of Mr. DOT, the photographer. The view is of the Queen of Tsawwassen running through Active Pass while subbing on route 9 for the Nanaimo some time in the early 1990's. I also have a second submission, with this photo being mine...

Wett Coast - I love that your BC pics are of winter operations, yet your bumper photo of the Alaska Marine Highway boat is in the height of summer. I can't explain it if it doesn't make sense, but it tickles me. When I think winter, I think Alaska... Good submissions, by the way.

Over the last three summers I have taken 3 trips on the AMHS's south-east Alaska routes - all of them being good trips. I have also had a good look at the WP&YR tourist rail operations at Skagway and area. That is soimething I would recommend you check out but I assume you have been there and done that. JST/WCK

A reminder that with today's weather (snow for some of our regions), there is some photo opportunity to get some fresh pictures for the Dec.2010 banner contest.
As for me, I may go down to Departure Bay today and look for some shots of C-Class ships sailing past the snow-covered trees on Newcastle Island.
I'm also considering setting up a road-block in front of Scott's house, so that he can't get out to take pictures. ;D - just kiddin'

I was going to do the same on my way to work, but there was no snow on the trees at sea level.

It is interesting how the deck of the Skeena Queen appears as if made of wooden slats. I know that this is not the case. Are there heat cables in the deck that would explain this pattern? BTW, I am back home on the frozen north not so wet coast. In fact it has been clear and cold for several days now hence we have no snow. No ferries either. So no new ferry snow scenes.

It almost does look like there is a heating grid on the cardeck of the Skeena. As far as I know though, there isn't. So I can only assume it was just the heat from the engine roome keeping the beams and framework warm underneath the deck plating. Some of the lines are tire tracks, but on the particular sailing that had just occured when that photo was taken, there was only one lane of vehicles, which were left of center in the photo.

They look like tire-tracks to me. The Queen of Alberni gets this too, but on her passenger decks. I think it's heat-wires.

I am not sure if the moderators are permitting two or three entries per member for this round. I have submitted two photos above, although the first one is actually entered on behalf of Mr. DOT. At any rate I thought that I would submit one other photo, this time of an inland 'BC' ferry, the Francois Forester. This photo is in colour, but it sure does look to be B&W.

:)2000th Post! I too am not sureth whether or not thou art accepting two or three photos for this month, so I shall go by the standard rules and posteth three. (Trying to touch up on my Elizabethan grammar for the Shakespeare unit in English class ) So, here are my shots: farm6.static.flickr.com/5001/5213417277_f879554338_b.jpgfarm5.static.flickr.com/4103/5214011884_4862493766_b.jpgfarm6.static.flickr.com/5282/5214011772_1da03914af_b.jpgOkay, I have a quick thing for the mods here. I'm not sure if the last photo I posted is 'legal', since there are no ferries in the shot. So, If it IS legal, and three shots ARE allowed, then just submit all three. If the last photo I posted IS legal, and only TWO shots are allowed, omit the FIRST photo I posted from my submission. If the last photo IS NOT legal, and three submissions are allowed, use the first two shots. And lastly, if the last photo IS NOT legal, and only two submissions are allowed, then once again, submit the first two only. Not confusing at all, eh? Be happy I didn't continue that Elizabethan thing for it

I'm content with you're nominations. Posting a maximum of three images is in fact what was expected.

They look like tire-tracks to me. The Queen of Alberni gets this too, but on her passenger decks. I think it's heat-wires. More likely Chris has the correct explanation--WSF boats experience the same phenomenon and I know there is no clever under-deck heating system there.
