We won't use the word " will" right now. We'll use the word " may" or " might" instead. The maintenance schedule may change and vessels get new assignments. We'll wait until that time if the EVERGREEN STATE actually does make an encore appearance in the San Juans or not. Everything is penciled in and the eraser can rub off the writing with changes or deletions.

It always has to be borne in mind that the maintenance diagram is based on a given set of assumptions, which may or may not play out as expected. If the Tacoma comes back on line early (admittedly unlikely) then the Evergreen may be sent back to the parking lot; if another boat breaks down (be it minor or catastrophic), all bets are off.

And, not surprisingly, the latest updated maintenance schedule posted today no longer has the Evergreen State coming back to the Islands. (This took a little cut and paste, but I got it to line up okay.)

Bremerton today. Vashon tomorrow? Yup, Kitsap Sun just says that the Cathlamet is going to Bremerton tomorrow and the E-State to the triangle. Kitsap will be out for a couple weeks.

Bremerton today. Vashon tomorrow? They sent out another alert earlier that Cathlamet will replace Kitsap at the start of service on Thursday. Kitsap will be out of service for at least two weeks. No notice yet, but presumably Evergreen State heads back to Vashon in the morning. If they keep this up, they really need to think about getting that galley cleaned up and reopened.

Vending machines need to be restored to the EVERGREEN STATE with snacks and beverages that have long shelf life. Meanwhile, it looks like Bremerton citizens have seen the EVERGREEN STATE visit their city in the 1950s, not just recently. This photo on Page 181 in the 1958 Newell and Williamson book Pacific Steamboats shows commuters looking at shipyard activity from aboard that ferry on the Seattle run. Don't know if the KLAHOWYA entered service before this book hit the shelves yet. This book has another good photo of the then "new" EVERGREEN STATE on Page 193.

Our favorite "retiree" making some speed returning from Sidney in 1962. Again, just a glance, but something rather impressive about her blazing along with the big "Century 21" on her side.

The Evergreen sure is having an active retirement. WSF I think is trying this boat for 2 more years at least. I personally think think that she would be a great fit for Pt. Defiance/Tahlequah instead of that aweful Chetzemoka.

According to the just released maintenance schedule, the Evergreen is being retired in September 2015. Don't ink this in, yet. It shows only a shaded area penciling her assignment as "Other". She's penciled for two weeks of drydocking in August. Things can change between now and then. We'll know she's retired when it finally happens. Or, will it really happen? On the other hand, we see the HIYU's charter to PC delayed by two weeks. She's still at the VMC and the STEILACOOM II is still at her namesake home terminal down south of the US Open Golf site. The HIYU is still penciled to be decommissioned before the EVERGREEN STATE.

According to the just released maintenance schedule, the Evergreen is being retired in September 2015. That's too bad. I think that she could last at least until the Chimacum is released in 2016.

According to the just released maintenance schedule, the Evergreen is being retired in September 2015. From what I have heard and what was stated at the "Samish" open house the plan is to keep her around until 2017. And as FNS stated it's only penciled in as "Other" it does not say "Decommissioned" Besides, at the end of June she is slated for work to be done at Eagle Harbor and then Dry Docking in mid-August. If WSF was planning to retire her in September I don't think they would be putting any money into her at all!

Due date for submission by the bidding yards is July 9 and the award is slated for July 14. www.wsdot.wa.gov/Ferries/Business/Contracts/search/browse?category=5&fiscalYear=&awarded=

Back in March, in one of my conversations with the fellow who handles the vessel surplus, he told me that there had been a high level staff meeting and that it had been decided that the E State would be kept until June of 2017.
