Heh, I wish I still had my freelance video I shot for KIRO News during a flood event back in the '90s.
I had to scrap a few shots because the raindrops were too much. LOL
God that video makes me want to go on one now. Especially on a very windy day. LOL. Being on a Super in a very strong wind event is a treat, lemme tell ya!

WHAT is going on with Yakima these days? This is the third day in the last week or so that Yakima's been out of service "due to necessary repairs".
Here are today's bulletins:

Yikes. At least this time of the year there is a little slack in the schedules of the other vessels in the SJI to make extra trips and extra stops.
Imagine if this was a Saturday in July.

It looks like the Sealth is going to the San Juans to replace the Yakima and the Salish is heading to Vashon. I guess we needed one breakdown/boat swap before the return of the Walla Walla:
Beginning Tuesday, Apr. 9, the 64-car Salish will service the F/V/SW route while the 90-car Sealth returns to the San Juan Islands to temporarily replace the Yakima. The three-boat weekday schedule will continue to be in effect. Please plan for additional wait times during the morning and afternoon commutes due to the decrease in vessel capacity.

It also looks like the Hyak is having some difficulties. I saw her at Vigor next to the Tokitae earlier today. She was supposed to be replacing the Kaleetan at Bremerton after her drydock time to allow fro the Kaleetan to go in the yard, but that does not seem to be the case.

I know the Yakima was needing yard time but what recently went wrong and took her out of service in the Islands?

cool photos! I really like the Yakima and the Supers. They are nice boats. Lots of outdoor deck space too not like those Issaqua boats!

(pun intended) Although they don't have the most elegant-looking cabin in the fleet (that award goes to the Walla Walla) they do have the best cabin layout/ floor plan. I will be so very sad when the Supers are retired in 2027 (the Hyak is supposed to stay in service till 2031, though).

I do like the cabin interior of the Yakima and I think the Kaleetan has a nice interior too from the photos I saw. The Hyak's interior I think is the worst then the Elwha.

That's only because the Hyak, and to a lesser extent the Elwha, are still with their original interiors. Personally, I like the Hyak's interior more than the rest. As for the Yakima? I noticed that they didn't paint the 6-inch Haze Gray dado above the decks as per WSF Paint Specifications. LOL Ooops!

No. The dado is the thin gray band coming off the deck on the bottom of the bulkheads in this shot of the Kaleetan I shot in February, 2011.

Now, here are some interior shots of this ferry, which I think has the best-looking passenger cabin out of all the Supers. These were taken on July 11th, as we were heading home from Lopez Island to Anacortes. I think the Yakima and Kaleetan have the best interior. I will see for myself when I take a trip on the Kaleetan in the San Juans as I have never been on the Kaleetan before. I have to try and get down there while she is in the islands.
