I'll start off this specialized thread with some photos of the Alouette Dam that I took over the Christmas break. From the dam's high side. That's the Alouette Reservoir, more commonly known as Alouette Lake, in the foreground. The main retaining structure. The lake is low right now, but when it's high, water spills over that top section there into the spillway below. The spillway is on the left and running down through the foreground, and the dam's gravel structure is on the right. the spillway from below. That pond of water is the start of the lower reach of the South Alouette River, or the Alouette Mainstream. The upper reach of the South Alouette River drains into the North end of the lake. A fishing notice. Allco Park is located here. The name Allco comes from the abbreviation for the Abernethy and Lougheed Logging Company, who logged the forests of Golden Ears park until the '30s (maybe longer, I forget), and operated a logging railway into the park until a forest fire wiped out much of the forests and the company was forced to shut down. The Allco Neighborhood is situated over what used to be the work camps of the logging company. More to come in the coming months: - Stave Falls Dams
- Ruskin Dam
- Others...?
