I am finding the Powell River webcam very neat. I can now see a ferry my late grandfather built. Daily. She is the MV NORTH ISLAND PRINCESS (ISLAND PRINCESS).
The MV QUEEN OF BURNABY has a bit of rust on her sides. I can't understand why so much lounge space on the Sun Deck is not used or open, though. The best thing to do is to add chairs in these spaces and place her on the Tsawwassen-Gulf Islands service. She could fill in on the busy TSA-SB run if need be (if something can fill in for her on the Gulf Islands service).
If major cabin space is not a high issue on the Powell River run, delete almost the whole aft Sun Deck lounge and buffet galley on the MV QUEEN OF NANAIMO and create aft outdoor seating with a solarium like what the MV COHO has. Amidships on the NANAIMO's Sun Deck has the open air eardrum breaker lounge (whistles close by). Place the NANAIMO on the Powell River run.
Yet another of the ferry webcams to look at besides the MVTimes.com webcam at Vineyard Haven to look at the prototype of Keystone's new ferries come from and go to Woods Hole.

Just curious why you're advocating switching the Burnaby & Nanaimo ferries around to opposite routes. The structural changes that you're suggesting could be done on the existing routes' vessels just as easily ('Nanaimo for gulf islands, and 'Burnaby for Powell River). Why do a ship-swap in order to renovate both ships, when you could just renovate the existing ship on each route?

Greetings, FH! As you know, the MV QUEEN OF BURNABY was reworked for the Seattle-Victoria run. Her upper area in her 84-foot mid-section was enclosed and one side was devoted to a duty-free store. Now that this is past tense, this area has been collecting dust. It was my thought of installing seats in this area and placing her on the Tsawwassen - Gulf Islands run. If any ferry breaks down on the TSA - SB run, she could be placed on that run in an emergency basis and would have nearly identical passenger square footage and seating the MV QUEEN OF NEW WESTMINSTER has now. Also, Burnaby is close to Tsawwassen. I probably will never think that the upper lounges of the QUEEN OF BURNABY will ever be used on the Comox run and keeping them painted, maintained, windows cleaned, lit, and ventilated is a waste there. As for the MV QUEEN OF NANAIMO, she is already better suited for the Comox run. No enclosed upper lounge in her mid-section. It would cost less to cut the aft upper lounge and buffet galley on her and creating an aft veranda and open aft seating (compared to doing this on the BURNABY and cutting her upper mid-section lounges and removing the Seattle ventilation). Forget about the aft solarium. These are just my thoughts. I don't really like to see closed areas, large empty areas, and blocked useful internal stairways on ferries. Thanks for your questioning about this, FH. Meanwhile, here is what we see on this webcam: Wednesday: The MV QUEEN OF BURNABY is readying for another trip to Comox. My late grandfather's ferry is arriving Powell River.

The Nanaimo has two bow thrusters, the Burnaby only has one. This is the reason why these two ships are where they are...

So, I guess that both upper lounges on the BURNABY could be cut, a middle upper shelter created, and a shortened aft lounge with veranda with more outdoor seating be done. Thus, a bit more vessel efficiency, unused interior space cut, and unblocking useful interior stairways. We'll keep the assignments the same.

F-N-Seattle: - thanks for explaining, it's all making sense to me now. I agree that the Burnaby's upper decks are wasted currently, but I didn't know enough about the 'Nanaimo's upper deck to compare.
Yes, and open upper-deck solarium on the Q-Nanaimo is a better starting point than the closed-off Q-Burnaby's upper decks, if you want to create space that is more appropriate for the Comox-Powell River run.
Thanks again.

Meanwhile, we catch an early morning capture of the Keystone prototype MV ISLAND HOME as she readies for another trip to Woods Hole from the picturesque Vinyard Haven at 0700EDT. mvtimes.com

Here's a webcam on Mayne Island, looking out into Active Pass. You can access the cam here. It appears to be looking towards Sturdies bay and the mainland. Here is a shot that includes the Coastal Celebration on its 3pm sailing (in place of the SoVI) from Swartz Bay to Tsawwassen. A great 'Wet Coast' Saturday!
