Since the month of May is going to be the last month during which the Evergreen State is going to be operating every day, I will feature the old lady and one of her running mates, the Hyak:

My signature photo for this month: The Queen of Nanaimo departing Tsawwassen, her fresh paint gleaming in nice evening light.

Kind of getting a jump on June here, but I am doing something a little different for this month. With the impending retirement of Evergreen State, June is all about that ship, so to honor her, I have 4 pics of Evergreen that I will be rotating through each week for my Signature, because 1 was simply not enough. Goodbye Evergreen. We will miss you. Here's my pic for the first week:

All right, I'm liking Kahloke's idea of having four signatures featuring the Evergreen State rotate throughout the month so I think that I'll do the same thing. The last one might get to stay a bit longer but that's ok... All right, this is my first one, the mighty Evergreen departing Orcas:

Week 3: The Evergreen State landing at Orcas on a typical, gloomy, rainy day, last summer.

Week 4 of the Evergreen State Signatures...and my last post while she's still in service. There she is, arriving at her homebase of Friday Harbor.

For the Month of June, I featured two signatures. The First was the Burnaby at Westview. I'm still glad to see back on Route 17 despite her poor looking condition. June 2014 Signature #1 by CS16 Photography, on Flickr Next was a picture from one of my recent trips in the Gulf Islands with the Queen of New Westminster and the Queen of Cumberland entering Active Pass. June 2014 Signature #2 by CS16 Photography, on Flickr Now to this month: With the NIP back on Route 18 and looking the best she has in new paint in a long time, she gets the nod for the first half of July. Yes, I know, I'm late but whatever. My signature for July will be this shot of the Malaspina in Upper Lynn Canal (Taiya Inlet) with the Chilkat Range rising above it:

Mr. WCK, I am loving your new "M/V Columbia" signature. The colours in the water are beautiful, as is the mix of water and hull.
Well done.

For the Month of August, I feature two vessels in their 50th Year of Service with the BC Ferries Fleet. First the New West, which will pass 50 Years of Service on the 4th of this Month. (BC Day Fittingly) August 2014 Signature #1 by CS16 Photography, on Flickr And the Nanaimo, which passed 50 Years back in June will be featured for the second half of the Month. (Featuring a cameo by the Coastal Celebration) August 2014 Signature #2 by CS16 Photography, on Flickr

(Featuring a cameo by the Coastal Celebration) August 2014 Signature #2 by CS16 Photography, on Flickr I love the Nanaimo/Celebration shot. Obviously from the schedule you knew that a route-1 ship would be passing by Sturdies Bay regularly, but I'm guessing that you really lucked-out on the fine timing of this, re the Spaulding ship coming into the berth, with the Coastal lined up perfectly behind. Did you anticipate this and get into a great position, or did the opportunity simply present itself to you where you were already at? ...every great photo has a story. Awesome work. ps: I'm assuming this is Sturdies Bay. I've been trying to figure out where else this might be, and I'm drawing blanks.

To answer your last question first, yes, the photo of the Nanaimo and C-Cel was taken at Sturdies Bay. (The New West shot was taken across from Sturdies Bay at Georgina Point) I did have some anticipation for this shot, but I was mostly focused on taking shots of the Nanaimo's Approach and was already in a good position so you could also say the moment presented itself since the Celebration was not originally my focus before this shot. If anything, I'm glad about the timing on this shot because if it had been a few seconds later I would have caught Nanaimo with her bow door swinging open which might not have looked as nice as the shot above. EDIT: Here's a Link to the Full Shot: www.flickr.com/photos/ship-rider16/14430745510/

I update my sig photos about once every six weeks give or take and they are usually self explanatory so I don't post anything about them here. On the other hand, my avatar pics are small, and could benefit by a bit of text put down here... My avatar photo from April through to this evening was a photo of an original Grand Trunk Pacific Railway 'insulator'. Those were the glass or porcelain 'things' that were used on telegraph & telephone lines up until communication 'cables' became the norm in the 1960's. I found my original 'GTP' insulator while exploring along the CN tracks near Terrace BC back in the late 1970's, not long after I first came north to Kitimat. CN's BC North mainline was built by the GTP, but that railway company went bankrupt only a few years after its completion. It became part of the Canadian Government's newly formed Canadian National Railways circa 1920. I first put this avatar up at the time of the 100th anniversary celebrations for the completion of the GTP, this past April.
My new avatar is a photo of the search light cover on the SS Keno, the Yukon River stern wheeler that is a National Historic Site maintained by Parks Canada, at Dawson City, BC. Attachments:

I'm actually going early for September! (going early for a signature? what? Yes, that's not my style, but hey, I've got it ready on time to let's put it up) This month I will feature the Cathlamet en-route to Bremerton with the Seattle skyline in the background.
