ummmmm marinetraffic.com has the SPIRIT OF BRITISH COLUMBIA route forecast going around Denmark, then an hour later has it going through the Kiel Canal. Flipped back & forth a couple times on me. Any insight? We'll see what she does in the next few hours.
Meanwhile, and before I went out for the afternoon, the SPIRIT OF BRITISH COLUMBIA passed over the Channel Tunnels at 1300PDT today.
... And, tonight's position.
I'll dig up some Kiel Canal cams shortly if she's heading that way.

Looks like she's headed on a North-Easterly track in the North Sea to sail up and over the Jutland Peninsula, the Northern tip of Mainland Denmark. She'll most likely head down past Copenhagen and under the Oresund Bridge, which links Denmark and Sweden, much like the Salish Class did. Not much in the way of webcams at that bridge, but there's a partial view of the main span below...She'll be sailing through here probably early tomorrow. www.oresundsbron.com/en/webcam

Any insight? Ok sorry too... Still interesting how their extrapolations are just guesses & how it would change like that.

I was following the SoBC's voyage past Copenhagen last night and watching the Oresund Bridge webcam (link above) when she was near the area but unfortunately it was very cloudy/foggy at the time and it wasn't possible to see anything. Hopefully I'll have a luck for her trip back!

Interesting note, Spirit of BC passed through Queen of the North's old Stomping Grounds. The Spirit Crossed between Gothenburg and Frederikshavn which is where the Stena Danica(1969-1974) opperated.

She has entered the harbor. Add the VEGA to the list of tugs assisting her.

FINISHED WITH ENGINES!!!
The SPIRIT OF BRITISH COLUMBIA arrived at her new home in Gdansk, Poland, for awhile at 0300PDT.
Her machinery did its job and will now be retired in favor of new.
She's an unfriendly ship to people without hard hats now.
LET THE WORK BEGIN!

Correct me if I'm wrong but I've done a search for Spirit of British Columbia on Marine traffic & now it says no "records found" I noticed this from a week or so ago right up until now. During it's voyage from Deas Dock to Poland I was able to trace it. Anyone getting the same issue as me?

Shows her at the shipyard in Gdansk.

Thanks for sharing the Dane! It still kind of amazes me that our own ferry is all the way across the world in Poland!!

You know that everyone who has sailed on the Spirit of BC now can say their fingerprints are now in Poland.

Is she getting a new paint scheme? If you're referring to the brown it's what the ships look like when they're stripped of all of their paint While, I have no idea, I don't think we are expecting a new paint scheme?

If you're referring to the brown it's what the ships look like when they're stripped of all of their paint While, I have no idea, I don't think we are expecting a new paint scheme? Part of a 'MLU' includes a total stripping of paint off the superstructure, any damaged plating is repaired or replaced then a coat of new rust protection 'paint' is applied. When all outer upper-works areas are 'MLU-complete', the entire superstructure will get a fresh coat of BC Ferries white/blue marine paint. (While the S.O.B.C. is out of the water her entire hull will get a sand-blasting and any repairs needed will be done then repainted with anti-rust protection and I guess black or dark blue hull paint) 'Hands-up, those that would like to go back to the pastel blue, and dogwood logo on the funnels'?

How long is the actual refit expected to take and when is the target date for her to begin her return voyage home?
I understand and appreciate that this is a major refit at least 6 months at the shipyard such as the C class. But given the need for her for service in the summer, and her transit time, crew training etc I would assume they have a target date to have the refit done.

I think it ought to be back in BC by May 1st to allow familiarization & training of crews prior to gong back into service in time for the May 24th weekend ...

And if they are late in delivering her back to us we may be screwed for the early summer. This is the same yard that delivered all three Salish class vessels late, although we do not know if the delay on those vessels was their fault.
