On our last trip, we had cell/3G service about an hour outside of Prince Rupert. I know the coverage has improved since 2009, but I don't recall ever not getting any service at all...?

Why is she so high in the front? Because she has been taking drugs. Haha

Why is she so high in the front? Because she has been taking drugs. Haha Actually, it likely has to do with Machinery below the passenger deck. Every ship has its design flaws, and the Northern Adventure is far from being an exception (such as an extremely poor choice of engines by the shipyard). As another example, the Queen of Surrey has her fuel tanks on the starboard side, so if the ship has a really light load and has recently fuelled, she will put on a slight list to Starboard.

Narcotics aside, this question was already answered on the previous page (it was posted over a year ago): Why is she so high in the front? A couple possible reasons. When a ship enters a drydock, it is generally desired to have the aft end touch down on the keel blocks first, as this aids in locating the rest of the keel squarely on the blocks, and concentrates stresses where the construction is the strongest. Also, in refit generally ballast and fuel are moved around a lot so that tanks can be cleaned, inspected and repaired as necessary, so in this case the forward ballast and/or fuel tanks may be empty. Tanks must be inspected and pressure tested by Transport Canada and/or the classification society on a regular basis as part of the continuous hull survey.

Oh ok, I had no idea when the question was asked, since I was on the mobile site on my phone. But thanks for clarifying.

I heard a rumour while in Haida Gwaii last week. I am putting very little stock in this, but nevertheless will mention it here:
There are some good reasons that this could happen:
1 - Demand is higher on route 11 than on route 10 during the summers these days. In the past that was not the case. 2 - The NorAd's rear end only loading is more inconvenient on route 11 then on route 10 due to the traffic mixes on the respective routes. 3 - The NorEx's better sea-keeping ability is needed more on route 11, even during summer, then on route 10.
I think the person that told me this (re the vessel switch) was probably actually perhaps confusing the off season situation when the NorEx is usually doing both routes.
We shall see what comes to pass in the years ahead ...

NorAd and Digby Island Ferry: - morning of August 5, 2015 at Prince Rupert NorAd had dropped off traffic the previous evening, and then spent the night anchored somewhere in Chatham Sound. She's headed back to the berth, because NorEx is about to vacate it. 164 by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr 167 by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr

Here's a better quality pic of the Northern meet-up in Prince Rupert: - This type of thing happens more than a few times a week, but I'm only there every 6 years or so, so I was happy to see it. 172 by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr

Here's what everyone has been waiting for: The Northern Adventure Movie.
Starring the ugly Greek ferry.
Co-starring the Smurf-like Digby Island Ferry and the elegant Northern Expedition.

Is the Nor-Ad currently at Deas Dock or at a shipyard somewhere? She is not on AIS.
