Just arrived at the hotel from my Route 10, 11, 26, 26, 11, 10 trip... Sorry guys, no photos of the Chilliwack. I was on the port side while nearing Hardy Bay tonight and did not catch a glimpse of the Chilliwack. ...I guess I should have been on the starboard side.

The same artist that did the QPR and Queen of the North paintings also has done one of the Queen of Chilliwack. I guess we can all speculate what will be on somebody's christmas list this year. www.thehumorousimage.com/chilliwack.htmlNot good....! Our friend the ferry artist appears to have closed up shop! His site isn't working anymore: www.thehumorousimage.com/

From the July 31, 2010 report from BCFS to the BC Ferry Commissioner. www.bcferrycommission.com/BCFSReport_to_Commiss0910.pdf=========== If the Chilliwack is getting a life-extension refit sometime soon, and assuming that this won't happen in summer (so as not to disrupt Route-40), then a winter refit of the Chilliwack would mess up refits for the Burnaby and Nanaimo.

The Chilliwack provides route 40 service for about 3 months, leaving 9 months left over to get her and the Burnaby & Nanaimo refits done. I think that is doable?

As discussed in another thread, the Burnaby isn't getting a refit until fall 2011. Once rt40 is done for this season, the Chilliwack will be able to take over for the Island Sky's refit, then replace the Burnaby while the Burnaby relieves the Nanaimo from mid-October to mid-December. So it's possible that the 'wack could be out of service from mid-December until the start of rt 40's summer 2011 season....about the same length of time each c-class MLU took. It should indeed be doable.

I remember when bc ferries purchased this economy Basto ferry way back when, and it seemed to be a curious addition at the time, but like the old timex, it keeps on ticking. I remember taking a few shots from queen of saanich when it was on the long hbr. run at first, my brother has a very good shot off helen pt, I snaped way back then. mr.dot.

Just a note, i've heard from someone who works aboard the Queen of Chilliwack that she will be indeed be getting a 50 million dollar face lift.

Just a note, i've heard from someone who works aboard the Queen of Chilliwack that she will be indeed be getting a 50 million dollar face lift. Well, she goes into refit in mid-December after the Queen of Nanaimo returns and is not needed again until the start of rt40's 2011 season, so there's lots of time to do a "coastalization". I hope to travel on her once before then to savour the last of her Dogwood identity

The Burnaby looks to be ready for beaching at Alang. Or does BCFS have some other means of getting work done on the Burnaby?

The 'wack is relieving the Island Sky for a mini-refit after rt40 ends in September according to BCF Travel Centre. And the Burnaby is scheduled for a refit including drydocking next fall....I hope she can last until then!

With the second deployment of the Queen of Chilliwack to the Little River - Comox / Westview - Powell River route coming up, I figured that this would be a a good time to display some of my captures from the first time this happened, back in May of 2009. I'll mix-in shots of the ' Wack both showing her and her surroundings as well as her on her own while on the route. (Not to beat a dead horse, but to clarify you must click the link provided to the individual Flickr page, click the '+' at the upper right of the image, and then choose the "original size" link through 'All Sizes' to access the full size of any pic I post in this manner; it's much easier then it sounds)LATE EDIT: As Flickr.com has recently changed the format of their site and the way that you can access images, I'm still re-learning the ropes. The good news is that, as I've just found out by chance - All that you need to do to access the the full size uploaded is right click on the image in its individual page and then, under "View available sizes: Medium 500 • Medium 640 • Original" click OriginalTo begin with, some of my early panoramic stitches (using autostitch.net's software created right here, at UBC)... That being said, however, I quite appreciate that this great piece remains aboard on display to the public and otherwise untouched.

thank you for posting that artwork from the wack, and I agree that the amendment of any work like this sucks! this is very creative artistic work and altering the history and heritage is undefensible in my way of seeing things. mr,dot.

In the week since the Chilliwack has started subbing on the Comox Route, there have been no service-notices issued (yet) for late sailings, delays, problems etc.
It would appear that the more-generous temporary schedule is working well.
Time and tide will tell for sure.

How long is the crossing??? It says online 1hr and 45 but on service notices I have seen on the ships it says 1hr and 35min. I thought that's what it was last time she was on the route! I am planning to do a trip over to Powell River in Nov to take a ride on the Wack!

I thought that's what it was last time she was on the route! I am planning to do a trip over to Powell River in Nov to take a ride on the Wack! Keep a jacket handy. Walking from one end to the other, I found it to be alternating hot, cool/cold, hot. The vehicle deck will test shocks, especially at the ends. At least they did when I last rode her back in 05. Those items aside, I really enjoyed the ride despite the typical weather.

Could we change the name of this thread to 'Queen of Chilliwack -- Discussion Only'? "The Queen of Chilliwack never changes" doesn't really cut it anymore. That's not really what's been discussed here for quite awhile.

Yeah I know about the Chilliwack! I have been on her a few times down south and a few times up north! She aint too bad up north! Although I like the Chilliwack! I think she is a unique ship, different but interesting! And she hasent been Coastalized yet! I wonder if they are running the Cafeteria service on the Powell River route! I hope they would be!

I think they were, but that was back in 05 for me. She is certainly unique and interesting. I'd love to go for another ride on her.

I very much enjoyed my route 40 trip on the Wack back in '06. I might like to take another trip one of these years. As for her off season work I think she would do as a fine replacement for the C Inspiration when she is pulled off route 30 for her first real refit ;D.

Me and Scott were on the Wack today to Powell River and back with a side trip on th NIP in between. Took the 10:00am ferry to Powell River and came back on the 4:45pm to Comox. It was pretty uneventful but a little choppy going over near Comox and Powell River. The Wack was doing her usual shaking thing. Coming back the Wack did the crossing in the same time the Burnaby does it according to the time I had 1hr 20 mins. Of course she dosent have to turn around going that way so it makes it shorter. The Wack does shake alot and is a bit noisy but I still think she's an interesting ship! I am sure Scott will have more to say about that! lol!
