The stairwell that Luke photographed exits outside on Deck 4. Thanks Scott. - this must be the stairwell exit. (where the #2 sign is). Or maybe it's from a similar structure on the other side. I don't know if these stairs are on all 4 corners, or just on opposite corners on each end.

The stairs are at all 4 corners of the ship, but the No.2 end port side has two sets of stairs.

The Queen of Chilliwack is having a really interesting night. I don't see any service notices about this given how late it is.
It's 11:55pm, and she is currently just off the North West tip of Texada (according to Siitech), heading south at about 5 knots. She should have been back in Comox over an hour ago. From the sounds of it, there's some extreme weather out there and she could quite possibly be heading back to Comox with no passengers onboard.
Edit at 12:20am
She's now turned around and it looks like she's heading back to Powell River at nearly 8 knots. Perhaps they decided to not bother crossing until further notice.
Edit at 12:29am
...Now it looks like they brought her back up to where she's supposed to be along the route to give it another try to head for Little River. Lets see how this works out.
Edit at 1:20am
It must be just awful out there. She still hasn't made crossing across the Strait yet, and continues to pace back and forth along the North West shores of Texada. Talk about a long day for the crew!

Traveling across the straight I can see her running parallel to the waves. I would think the route 17 crew isn't used to her and don't want to try and plot weather courses with only three RADs. She doesn't have stabilizers and does roll quite a bit, I would assume much more than the Burnaby would have in this situation.
Would have been a fun night to be on route 17.

Some shots of the Chilliwack from this afternoon. They're from my Cell Phone so bear with me, I didn't have my regular camera handy when I took these shots. It's a shame too, they were using the 2nd Platform Ramp. Car Deck... Notice something different? Passing the NIP Our position from both directions when we changed ends. Toward Grief Point---------------------------Toward Westview Finally some views from the 2nd Platform Ramp That's all.

Unless your noting that both vehicle ramps are being used, I cant tell whats different on the Chilliwacks car deck. It has been almost a year and half since if seen her though. I do miss her, I miss her dearly.
So, I don't want to seem ignorant of my baby, but uhm, whats different?

Ohh, ok, good, I though I was loosing my touch. The second ramp gets used once in a while up north. I'm not 100% sure but I think there cant be any passengers at all on the cardeck to raise or lower the ramps as per regulations. They have to plan ahead for the use for ramps.
Cheers,

I think that was a stupid idea on BC Ferries part for them to hold off Powell River. They should of just went back to Powell River and let everyone off! I can see it on the Northern Routes but not down here. I am sure people would of just rather have stayed in Powell River than being on the Chilliwack till 4:45am.

I've re-read this thread, and can't find any mention of this.
Does anybody know whether the Chilliwack's cafeteria is serving full meals, or if it's the same limited menu she has when she's on route 7. I suspect the latter.. but it would be nice to know.

In May 2009 the only hot food was hot dogs and chilli-dogs. As for this year, I'll give a reporting-assignment to my wife, for when she takes the Chilly next week.

Yeah it looks like this year it's a full menu. Maybe people complained and they decided to run the full menu this year.

Here's evidence of the Queen of Chilliwack's storm-course this evening on her final trip of the day from Powell River back to Comox. - she's the vessel in red.

Yeah it looks like this year it's a full menu. Maybe people complained and they decided to run the full menu this year. IF they have this capacity now, why did they never use it on the Saltery Bay run. I'm sure they must have had a fair amount complaining whenever the switch from a full-service Queen of Tsawwassen to a partial service Queen of Chilliwack took place. Maybe they still just considered the Saltery Bay run as only an intermediate run instead, not requiring full meals service.

Would the Powell River-Comox route require more crewing than the Saltery Bay-Earls Cove run? Maybe to increase passenger capacity (which I'm assuming is more of a factor on the Comox route) they needed a few extra crew members and to keep them busy they boosted the cafeteria service.

You'd probably get the same type of answer if you asked why they went from the Chilliwack's Cafeteria Service to the Island Sky's Snack Bar operation. I agree with John, it probably has to do with crew. Though you also have to factor in that Route 17 offers full cafeteria service with the Burnaby year-round whereas Route 7 only offered full service with the Queen of Tsawwassen in summer.

The Chilliwack is still registered as she was up north. She is still required to run as a single ender and have the bow watertight doors locked, and she has been doing so.
She is currently running on a "C" licence (18 crew + 332 Passengers for unprotected waters between Little River and Westview), for earls cove she would run on a "D" licence (13 crew + 292 Passengers for sheltered waters between Saltery Bay and Earls Cove), for route 40 she runs on a "B" licence (26 live aboard crew + 374 passengers no location restrictions 24 hour operation).
She is required to have 9 crew aboard for relocation (with no passengers) so that leaves 4 extras when on route 7 and 9 extras when on route 17, so yes they do have more people to spare and this could be why they have a full menu. Also, I was told that they needed extra crew to run anything more than the microwave in the galley to heat food up while on route 7, so this makes sense.
Cheers,
