Various sighting of the Queen of Cowichan during my August 13th day of riding ferries from Nanaimo to Bowen Island and back. - at Departure Bay's berth-3 in the morning. I'm going to take the 7:45am sailing on the 'Cowichan. When I was cropping this shot, I thought that the composition looks like a photo that Scott would take. Yes, we all have our styles... And here's a Flugel style of photo, from the car deck of the Queen of Capilano: 'Cowichan in Queen Charlotte Channel beside Bowen Island, headed for Nanaimo. Back at Departure Bay in the evening. 'Cowichan is in berth-3.

My Great Aunt was a Chief Steward with BCF for years before she retired. She worked on the QPR, the QotN, the Cowichan, among others before her retirement. This drawing of the Cow from 1976 hangs on the wall of her dining room to this day.

Seen from Sugarloaf Mountain on March 3, 2012, the Queen of Cowichan in berth-3 at Departure Bay, with Bowen Queen arriving from Gabriola in the Nanaimo harbour background. With a bit of zoom distortion, you can see how close the 2 ferry terminals of Departure Bay and Nanaimo Harbour are to each other. Probably closer together than any two other terminals in the BCF System (other than something like "Buckley Bay and Denman West" and others that are separated by ocean, of course).

Hi everyone, Do anybody know exactly when the route 3 ship-swap was done in 1996? I'm talking about when the Cowichan was replaced by the Surrey. The reason i'm asking is because i'm trying to figure out which BC Ferry I first rode.... I checked the "BC Ferries Timeline" on the forum, but I couldn't find it there. I was about 2 days old when I first travelled route 3, and i'm wondering what ship I was on.

I know this because the swap took place while I was on a trip to Hong Kong and I just checked my old plane tickets. At this time, the Surrey took over route 3 and the Cowichan had her first interior upgrade done before starting service on route 2.
