Nice pics, Scott, of a stranger in Tsawwassen. Do we know why she is out of service, and why they brought her there? Thanks, Jim! I'm not positive on what specifically sent her to Deas, but after arriving on Monday, she departed this morning at 0100 to resume Route 2 service today. These rare ship movements are lots of fun. As far as I'm aware, there's nothing at Deas, so I'm thankful we got to see her outside of her usual stomping grounds. Just speculation, but perhaps it was to be a relatively easy/minor repair job and they did it at Tsawwassen to avoid having to pay tugs to maneuver the ship into the Deas basin?

Nice shots from Piper's Lagoon.I remember back in the early 80's watching the Alberni (in pre mod form)from there, shooting out of Departure Bay and disappearing in minutes. She was very fast back then.

Nice close-up shot! Makes the ferry look really big. Did you take this from a small boat? Or did you take this from a ferry that had just vacated the berth to allow Oak Bay to enter?

This was taken from a small rental boat. I had driven off this ship about ten minutes before this photo was taken...

I'm asking because I see several photos taken by Scott (Former Account) and @sccommuter that appear to have been taken from a similar angle as your shot was.

Was at Stanley Park last night with my wife and saw the Queen of Oak Bay headed to the island just after sunset. Taxed the limits of my Canon Rebel 4Ti - 300mm at f 5.6. (plus 1.6 factor)

Prior to the arrival of a group of forum members aboard the Oak Bay's 0630 sailing, I ventured over to Stephenson Point to watch her approach into Departure Bay.

I like this dawn photo because it gives the illusion that Queen of Oak Bay dwarfs Coastal Inspiration. - taken from Pipers Lagoon beach in Nanaimo. Dec.7, 2013. One of the enjoyable aspects of ship photography is the variety of views from different angles, each making the ship look different than from another view. Same thing when you change perspective by placing a smaller ship in the foreground.
