Sunday, January 18th was the 1-year anniversary of our forum's switchover to a new version of Proboards. ....for those who like to mark these kinds of anniversaries. I think things have settled down quite well regarding this change. I know that I'm happy with how I use the forum and where I find the various buttons and icons. I'm still figuring out how to pace myself with the "Like" button. I mainly use it when I want to thank someone for a post, or acknowledge someone's reply, without cluttering the thread by doing a 2-word post. Some people criticized the like button originally, but I think it's nice because it reduces the amount of two or three word posts like "nice photos," "hahaha that's funny," or "I agree." I like the like button.

There remain several annoying screw-ups with the Pro-Boards V 'upgrade' that apparently will never be resolved. One of these is the chronological order MESS that remains in (I think) all the longer threads that started before the 'upgrade'. Another is the loss of the 'post #' feature.
Nevertheless, there are good aspects to the upgrade (e.g. the 'Like' button). But, on balance, I not sure that its a better product that what we had before. We have grown 'used to it'.

There remain several annoying screw-ups with the Pro-Boards V 'upgrade' that apparently will never be resolved. Another annoying thing that I've noticed is that with posts made prior to the upgrade (I think), when they have a file attached to them, the attachment has become completely screwed up. You can't open it because there's no file extension; in fact it seem that all those attachment files have become corrupted. This is kinda annoying, especially if you are browsing through older posts in a thread. Which brings me to the other annoying thing about v5. You know how there's that blue box that says "NEW" when a thread has new posts, and when you click on that blue box, it's supposed to take you to the newest unread post on that thread? Well, sometimes, it screws up and puts you on page 1, which, for a lot of the threads on here, brings up posts from years ago. It's annoying when it does this but it's kinda neat to read the older posts. Another thing that bugs me is how it does that "smooth-scroll" thing to go to the latest post on a thread. When there's a lot of pictures and they haven't all loaded yet (this is true even with "high-speed" DSL internet), it does the scrolling thing, and then kind of bounces around as the pictures load. You know what I'm talking about? I can't stand to look at the page while it's loading so I have to switch to a different tab and wait till all the pics have finally loaded. The smooth-scroll thing would be fine if it waited till everything on the page loaded before doing it.

It's annoying when it does this but it's kinda neat to read the older posts. Many of us use the "Recent Posts" button to view the new posts on the forum. It uses less ad-free and isn't prone to strange jumps. You should try it (and everybody else reading this post!). When there's a lot of pictures and they haven't all loaded yet (this is true even with "high-speed" DSL internet), it does the scrolling thing, and then kind of bounces around as the pictures load. There is no real high-speed internet in the entire state as of right now. Go to Europe and there you will find high-speed, extremely low-cost internet.

I dislike not being able to disable photos. As nice as most of them are, being on dialup makes this forum an exercise in patience!

I dislike not being able to disable photos. As nice as most of them are, being on dialup makes this forum an exercise in patience! Man, you must be a really patient person to still have dialup in 2014! I remember when I was younger and my grandparents still had dial-up. Most of the time, it was annoying because it was so slow, but it was fun watching pictures slowly appear on the page from top to bottom. It was annoying that it hogged the phone line. Now, DSL (which was considered "blazing fast" ten years ago) is now just mediocre. It's not as painfully slow as dial-up though.
