When can we expect this new ship to be delivered?
I assume right now they are outfitting the interior and will move on to sea trials shortly so not too long?
Also will this ship make the trip to BC under its own power or will it be moved in the same way the Pacificats were or the new Seabuses

They'll be moved like the SeaBus, I recall that being included in the bid announcement. I'm curious about when we will see them too. I've spent a lot of time trying to find pictures and come up short.

“Road Ferry 8117 #1 and #2” were launched on February 7th and March 14th, respectively. “Damen Shipyards Galati” Facebook made mention of both occasions.

Will BC Ferries have both these vessels at same time? If these vessels are delivered together, will these vessels enter service at same time?

When BC Ferries select name for the two vessels under construction? When will see the next four Island Class vessels start construction? I ask because the project page says they are excepted to enter service year later after the first two vessels. When will see BC Ferries start talking about replacing K-Class Vessel?

Thanks for sharing that link, really cool images. Curious the naming is so late, and interesting that they'll be delivered to Point Hope presumably for some fitting out based on the timeline. Seems like a win for us, as I'm now on Team Don't Build Ships Locally.

I truly don’t understand their timeline, if both vessels arriving at the same why not speed up docking trails. Why not have both vessels enter service around the same time?

Island Class vessels will be able to go fully electric in future: Hopefully, Island Class going electric is a smoother transition than when Bob Dylan went electric....

Thanks for this advisement. Thread has been renamed for the final time. Is this in addition to the "Island Sky class"? It looks like part of the solution will be to rename the Island Sky to something else. Also, every vessel will be named the "Island____" in line with the "Coastal" or "Salish" prefixes.

Would it not be difficult to rename the Island Sky?There’s a lot more that goes into it than just new paint on a corner of a ship; there’s an exponential amount of time that goes in to re-registration of the new ship’s name with the authorities. This takes staff, and it’s expensive. Not to mention the fact that ferry-dependent communities often attribute a sense of identity to a ship, and that identity can be captured in a name, so there’s a necessity to be mindful of what you’re renaming. I am cautiously optimistic that the new name will follow along the coastal First Nations themes that we’ve been seeing with the Salish class and NSW. There is no shortage of local indigenous identities and place-knowledge to choose from in that area.

I forgot about the reality of Coastal Renaissance, Coastal Celebration, and Coastal Inspiration. Hopefully they're past the guideline of, "let's toss it off to a random focus group who've been instructed to select something that means nothing to anybody".

I think the more recent BC Ferries names haven't been particularly objectionable if not uninspired. While this topic is highly subjective, Island Sky to me was the bottom point of naming - just such a thoughtless meaningless name for the sake of a name. If it is renamed I'd be very pleased! Perhaps some local nature like we saw with the Salish class.

Imo the naming convention went to hell after they stopped naming vessels Queen of Blank... or Blank Queen.

Perhaps some local nature like we saw with the Salish class. I agree. At least the Coastals had a bit of pomp. Renaissance, etc... Island Sky is like picking two utterly non-controversial words that vaguely fit the environment, with no context. The perfect embodiment of David Hahn's statement, "names are names". Boaty McBoatface, without the cheeky humour.

I'd like to think history will repeat itself, and the Island Sky will become the North Island Sky.

A pair of lovely photos of the first Island class doing sea trials in the Black Sea from Damen's Facebook page:
