Couple of questions: 1. Who owns the design of Island Class? 2. When will the contract for four new vessels be rewarded?

Have Denman Shipyard started shipping ships? If they haven’t started yet, will this delayed the roll out of the first one?

With the mystery of the Island Class ship names as my motivation, I did a search for trademarks registered by "British Columbia Ferry." Here are some of the items which interested me: Salish Kingfisher Salish Sandpiper Salish Heron Island Aurora Island Discovery Website Here

With regards to the 2nd-generation of 4 Island Class ships and the 1 additional Salish Class ship, the Ferry Commission webpage has some recent reports explaining a delay in the process: The request for proposals brought prices that were higher than had initially been approved by the Commissioner, and so a supplemental application needed to be made, and has now been approved. As well, the expected in-service dates of the new ships has been delayed. - previously the in-service dates for the 5 new ships were between Spring, Autumn and Winter of 2021. - currently the dates are now expected to be between Winter of 2021/22 and Summer 2022. This date-extension means that the existing vessels (Bowen, Mayne, Powell River Queens) will linger in service for longer than we first expected. For Bowen Queen, this means a necessary refit for purposes of extending its license to Summer 2022. Also, the report clarifies that the new vessels "will be delivered under their own keel." ie. not onboard a ship-shipping-ship. The supplemental request is available for your viewing, and has various things that might be of interest. SEE IT HERE

I wonder if that they will need be delivered on their own keel is good for local bidders. I read through the report, the schedule caught my eye hopefully BC Ferries doesn’t do that schedule, they just operate both vessel during the day. I think both vessels should start there day at between 5 am to 6:30 pm with ending there days between 11 pm to 12 pm in peak season to provide the capacity for all sailing. In off season one of vessel could end the 9:30 pm and the other vessels provides service for last two round trips.

Why is BC Ferries keeping so quiet about delays of this class of vessels delivered to BC Ferries? Hopefully this doesn’t delays for this vessels enter to service.

The first two will be here in January 2020. I hope that speed up the docking trail and training to allow these vessels to enter ASAP.

I wonder why BC Ferries has stated the names yet. Is how future vessels are going to be delivered to BC Ferries that they would not say name until she is delivered and sea trails are started?

On the Salish Delivery Cruise Facebook page there are many new photos, both real & renders posted tonight. Great photos, I appreciate whoever the author is there getting the images up. They continue to strike me as the sharpest looking additions to the fleet in some time.

Back in the day (maybe a few years ago), I used to think that we had to have absolutely every piece of ferry news and information here on this forum.
These days, that isn't really a goal of mine anymore, and I'm content to see this as one of many places of ferry items.
So regarding the Island Class delivery, I'm content to follow the Facebook page "Salish Delivery Cruises" which is tracking the Island Class delivery on the lift-ship "Sun Rise." A ship shipping ships should be fun to see.

If you're interested, I will be tracking the Sun Rise and it's two Island Class cargo on my website at patbaywebcam.com/sunrise.phpTracking now includes: Voyage days, distance, Speed Knots last/max/avg, wind and weather forecast for current position, and whenever possible I include timelapse videos of the ships going through the Panama Canal. As always, if you have suggestions/requests/ideas for changes, let me know and I'll see what I can do. You can either discuss it here or use my site contact form at Pat Bay Webcam Contact Form Previously I've tracked the Salish ships (Orca, Eagle, and Raven), The Northern Seawolf, the Spirit of BC, and the Spirit of Vancouver. These transits are on the tracking archive page at patbaywebcam.com/tracking_archive.phptak
