1. is there a way to insert a poll into this thread? 2. to keep things tidy, should this thread actually be inside that other one? 1. A poll cannot be added to an existing thread. 2. Island Ferries and Vancouver Island Ferry Company (Hullo) are two seperate companies.

According to the Hullo Ferries facebook page, their vessels are now on their way to BC, via a heavy lift transport ship. I didn't catch the name of the heavy lift ship, however they also announced that they'll be providing a link to track the ship. Stay tuned...

Seems to be on the UHL FREEDOM Heavy Load Carrier, IMO 9897121

Pricing is lower than I expected at a three class service, $40, $50 and $60. The first two classes are downstairs in the main cabin and the other upstairs at the highest fare category.
You save $10 when you book a sailing for the first time. I'll definitely sail in their first few days of operation, however my work schedule allows.

This is exactly what I was hoping for! They are taking advantage of what BC Ferries fails to offer, so many islanders want to catch late sports evens (like Canucks games) without having to stay in a hotel overnight, this will allow us to do so! So convenient with the ferry service right in Coal Harbor too, it's easy to just catch the sky train from waterfront to chinatown-stadium.

Similar to what the Princess of Vancouver offered with their 4 A.M. departure from Vancouver - hit the downtown bars until closing after the game or concert, the hop on the P.O.V. and head home. Not sure if the Princess Lounge was open on that sailing or not. Looking forward to trying Hullo - hopefully they make a go of it.

The prices seem very reasonable which is good to see, hopefully Hullo can survive with the prices. I am wonder what other five sailing times will be with first sailing from Nanaimo to Vancouver is at 6 am while the opposite direction is at 8:30 am while the last sailing between Nanaimo to Vancouver 7:30 pm while opposite direction is at 9:30 pm. Hopefully these will be convenient times.

I wonder when the names will be unveiled, hopefully soon due the need to start testing and training crew on these vessels.

They're not temporary. If you look at the pictures/gifs on the Hullo website, the names are already painted on. Vessel port of registry is Nanaimo.

The "Spuhels" and "Sthuqi" are on their way to Nanaimo today. Spihels is currently abeam Active Pass, northbound in the Strait. Sthuqi is just exiting Victoria Harbour as I write this.

In order for them to be in service in August they have to start training & familiarization ASAP. I also wonder how they are doing with recruitment of crew. As we know pretty much all entities in the marine sector on this coast are have trouble with recruitment.
If Hullo is not able to start service until after summer wanes they will have an even harder time trying to survive.
Good luck to them & I expect to travel on them at least once in the late summer/fall.

I was in Nanaimo today and I saw both vessels tied up at the dock in downtown. If they intend to be up & running early in August then they need to be out with at least one vessel doing all those things that must be done before you start service.

I don't think there's any question; this company has done the best job of any of the attempts to launch a Nanaimo to Vancouver passenger service. Two purpose built vessels- and a spare engine- as well as apparently deep pockets and a sensible pricing structure. What's unknown, and has never been properly tested, is the potential demand. It's not going to come from the mainland side.
If they have the staying power, it's possible that demand could be built just by hanging on long enough, and being dependable. New highways and bridges eventually reach capacity just because they create new demand, if the concept is well thought out. I have no idea if there are enough Nanaimo area residents who want a passenger connection to Vancouver, or if there are people who want to come to the mainland to work, at least part of the time. Maybe this time, we'll finally find out.

Seems like they've been doing a round trip to Vancouver and back at least once a day with one of the boats. When they initially started these trial runs, they were doing around 30kts each way. Today, I noticed they've been running at about 40kts. I thinks this 70 minute crossing time is a tough one to achieve, even at 40kts since it seems to be about 75-80 mins, dock to dock. I don't want to be too critical of them because I'd like to see them succeed. 75 -80 mins is still much faster than the conventional route.
