Hi, I am thinking of taking a round trip to Langdale as a footsie, what is the proper procedure for boarding the same ship on the return. Do I need a boarding pass, and if so where do I obtain one? I plan on disembarking the vessel at Langdale. Once you disembark at Langdale (via the main vehicle deck) all you need to re-board is to grab a boarding pass. (No payment necessary at Langdale) They can be easily obtained at the press of a button from a set of kiosks around berth 1. Alternatively, if you’re just getting off then getting back on, you can stay onboard during unloading/loading as long as you notify a crew member that you’re staying onboard. Just let the chief steward know and you should be fine. You may have to disembark anyway if crew change occurs prior to your return sailing. In which case, refer to what I said above.

QQII has left Denman West and appears to be repositioning to Saltery Bay. Currently southbound in Malaspina Strait.

Am I allowed to put these photos of the bridge if it is in a "restricted area" or should it be deleted? As long as there aren’t any crew visible in the shots, (which there aren’t) I don’t see any issue with posting these.

The Island Nagalis is once again headed for Discovery Passage this morning. Probably pretty wild out there considering the windstorm last night.

Just use the name Tenaka otherwise you should include the original name as she served our coast under that name for quite a few years before becoming the Tenaka. As the Alberni Legacy she sat in Alberni Harbour for pretty much the whole time. Good point. I've reverted it to 'Tenaka' Since none of the other ex-BC Ferry thread titles reference their post-BCF names. (Just think if we did though: We'd have Alberni Legacy, Inlet Explorer, Buttle Shuttle, R.J. Breadner, Princess Jacqueline, Ocoa, Muskegon Clipper, and Lomaiviti Princess I, III, and V)

Post to acknowledge I moved 3 posts from the North Island Princess thread to here as they had nothing to do with the NIP.
Also, I've renamed this thread back to 'Tenaka' as she is no longer owned by Lady Rose Marine. I've retained 'Alberni Legacy' in the thread title as that was her last registered name, but the majority of us still refer to her as 'Tenaka.' (Except maybe those old enough to remember her as 'Comox Queen')

random thought that popped into my head and I cant find an answer for, when BCF changed paint schemes (either time) how long did it take to repaint all the ships? It took just under 3 years to repaint every ship from the Expo scheme into the Wave. The Quinsam was the last to be repainted in early 2006.

The Route 17 stop at Blubber Bay which was being piloted prior to the pandemic will not be reinstated. www.prpeak.com/local-news/bc-ferries-indicates-piloted-texada-stop-will-not-be-reinstated-6126911While it’s a blow to Texada residents, it was more of a inconvenience to Powell River residents having additional time added to the morning sailing. My hope is maybe they’ll look into improving transfer times between routes. A shame they don’t have two berths at Westview. I could see a set-up similar to Saturna transfers at Village Bay where the Texada ferry docks and vehicles drive off and right onto the ferry for Comox..

Double whammy for the Queen of Surrey this morning: Mechanical problems with the #1 engine. On top of that there was a medical emergency involving a crew member. Surrey is being moved to Berth 2 as I type this. Meanwhile the Oak Bay is being redeployed to Route 3 to deal with the delays.

Don't think we have many shots of Blubber Bay since the wing walls were rebuilt. Interesting to compare with the picture posted at the top of the page.

Heading back aboard.

If I recall, the pre-2020 plan was to build 5 vessels to replace 4. (New Westminster, Coquitlam, Cowichan, Alberni) The additional vessel would free up the Oak Bay and allow her and the Surrey to operate on Route 3 year-round. The 81 ‘C’s would then be replaced by vessels 6 and 7. Probably 5 years later give or take when they’d be similar in age to their 76 counterparts.
If we look at the updated timeline of 2029 to replace the 76 ‘C’s, (and New West) the 81 ‘C’s wouldn’t be replaced until at least 2034 based off my previous estimate. I wouldn’t doubt this timeline gets accelerated, but I think it would be a little too ambitious (and expensive) to build all 7 one after the other. Maybe an initial 2 or 3 so they can at least retire the New West? (Which will be pushing 65 in 2029) Or maybe the original plan of 5 and 2 is still on the table? Or they split it evenly at 4 and 3 like Blue Bus Fan suggested.

In service or resting as a spare? I expect Island Nagalis will stay in layup at Quathiaski Cove till the Fall when her and Island K’ulut’a take over the Campbell River-Quadra route. Despite the uptick in hiring, I don’t expect BC Ferries’ current timeline to be moved up. My guess is she’ll be used as emergency relief if say one of her Island Class sisters has to be pulled from service. Or maybe she’ll swap places with one of her sisters for a week like we saw last month when she swapped with the Island Discovery.

The day following my last ride on the Bowen Queen, I proceeded up to Campbell River for a ride on the Powell River Queen. I had no clue if the PRQ had a few weeks or a few months of service left, but now we know it was still a year out.

Surprised nobody has posted any pictures of the Lay-by Berth in Quathiaski Cove. Guess I'm one to talk though, I've been sitting on these photos since late September and I'm only just getting around to posting them.

Island Discovery and Island Nagalis have once again swapped places. Basically the reverse of what happened a week ago. Nagalis has returned to Quathiaski Cove and Discovery is back running Route 18.

It would be the fourth, wouldn’t it? The K’ulut’a was there for a few weeks also not too long ago Three for sure. Discovery, K’ulut’a, and Nagalis made their debut on Route 18. I think the Aurora served on Route 25 before she did Route 18. All 4 have ran on Route 18, but I was more referring to the “first day of service” for each vessel.
