The Chilliwack will be recieving a Major Upgrade soon, so she'll be around for awhile longer.

Looks more like a slogan or a tag line to me, but hey, you never know. I wonder what they are doing to her.

With the recent discussion in the Coastal Class Placement thread, I had an idea. Which vessel do we think is next? In this poll, I've chosen 16 Minor and Intermediate vessels that may not live past this Decade. The 17th choice, "Other" applies to all other vessels in the fleet. Feel free to post the reason for your choice.

I wonder if they are running the Cafeteria service on the Powell River route! I hope they would be! Yes, they do. No need to worry there.

The Queen of Coquitlam would be used as an extra ship on long weekends and as a refit replacement for the Surrey, Oak Bay, and Cowichan. I think the vessel that will be used the least during the off-season will be the New West. Probably only on rt30 during the Alberni's refit. Personally, I think she can get about as much use as the Coquitlam year round. They should familiarize Route 3 Crews with the New West and base her out of Langdale in winter so they can pull her into service for a few round trips on weekends. That way, when it gets exceptionally busy, the Coquitlam doesn't have to do a round trip to Langdale if she does M.D. Sailings. Ferry Traffic in both directions moves faster this way. The New West can be re-deployed to Departure Bay when the Coquitlam has relief duties and M.D. sailings would be done like they are now on Routes 2 and 3.

As for route 40 having the CI year round. They need a faster ship to keep the schedule, the New West is the only one capable of keeping this schedule. Yes, the CI is absolutely useless up here. The New West is a better choice but I think the Chilliwack would be best suited for Route 40. Seriously though, with 2 Coastals on Route 1, we would have a C Class, either a Coastal or the New West, and the Spooks as relief on all the Majors. This allows Routes 1, 2, and either 3 or 30 to run an extra vessel at anytime. Makes me wonder how feasible it would be to run a Spook on Route 30. Probably too cost effective. Might be good for weekends though.

Interesting to note that by 1974 the Queen of the Islands was only operating for half the year... You also have to note that for half of the year around this time she was loaned to the Department of Highways to run the Powell River-Comox route for the Summer. Also a point of interest is that her Summer Route 9 counterpart, Sechelt Queen was redeployed to the Comox Route shortly after in 76.

Wow! That is one heck of a lot of scaffolding. You'd almost think they were renovating a building if you didn't know it was a shipyard.

Global BC reported a few minutes ago about an unusual occurrence at Langdale. Cougar sightings in general are not uncommon at these times of year, but what was caught on tape at Langdale today sure was. The video showed the lower holding area at Langdale and it showed a cougar running up the holding area. I can't find a video of this right now, but it sure was funny to see. Hopefully GlobalBC has this up later.

I actually haven't the faintest idea of why. I'm guessing the Primary Berth must of had a minor malfunction that couldn't be fixed immediately.

The CI Early in the Day on the 28th. And at the end of the Day. It took a bit of time to position herself in the dock. That's all for Now.

Since I can't find a Multiple Ferries thread, these will count as Swartz Bay.

The Mayne at Swartz Bay, 9/28/10. Even though she left 10 minutes after the SoVI, we still managed to catch up with her before she turned toward Saturna.
