Currently there is a new special burger on the menu, basically just a BC burger with additional bacon, onions, and maybe nothing else? Anyways, it's exceptionally delicious.

Coastal Renaissance is now at Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal for Route 1 I was on the CR today; from a customer experience point of view probably the worst sailing I've ever been on? Almost all the washrooms were closed. The open two, one for each genders, had no paper towel. This also meant Deck 5 had no washrooms available, despite being fully open. Cafeteria opened late, ran out of cutlery, and my first tray was visibly dirty. The turkey bacon on my partner's sandwich was the size of a quarter, it would have been amusing had it not been $10. They forgot to make that sandwich, twice, so I was in the cafeteria loitering for quite some time. Paper plates were used. The Deck 7 stairs got closed, for unknown reasons, why we were still up there, and nothing was said to us. We had to take down stanchions and set them back up. Nothing catastrophic, and the crew we interacted with were wonderful. I'm assuming the ship was running with minimum crew, and likely new crew to many areas (or I'm getting old and everyone seems really young, also possible).

There was an equal amount of ferries at Tsawwassen as there were berths, that morning. If the CCel ran to Tsawwassen there would be one more boat than berths. She could’ve use Duke Point berth if they wanted too due Duke Point vessels sailing during the morning. It was a Sunday morning. Route 30 wasn't running.

Aren't most of the Managers actually 'just' the Captains?

It did seem like yesterday had pretty extreme tides as well; the ramp onto my ferry was basically parallel to the water. And we made a 1h15 crossing on Route 1! Wonder if that contributed to the terminal difficulty with the truck.

I want to try putting together a detailed timeline of BC Ferries History but I noticed the timeline thread has run pretty dry and all the links are dead. Does anyone have recommended sources to look at to start putting this together, any niche sites or books that dive into the history? I can update the links this week, I still have it all and it's up to date through 2021. Then I had a baby lol

The Mayne Queen book available at Bolen Books; first place I've seen with shipping available. Just grabbed a copy and will likely read it tonight, it's quite short. If there's anything noteworthy I'll post some thoughts. bolenbooks.com/item/kUIAuTpWhPz0h1rFI3Tsug

Some random person told that are going to sink Powell River Queen. Is that true? It appears to still be for sale; not sure how quick these ship sale websites are updated?

Several photos on Facebook of the V2V being loaded onto a shipping vessel. Rumour in the Inner Harbour is it is headed for the Caribbean; this not verified.

Think it's replacing the Cumberland. Cumberland replacing the Malaspina for refit coverage.

I wonder what the Alberni costs BC Ferries every year in maintenance above and beyond what may be anticipated? There was a ton of cancellations throughout 2022, and that's not new for this ship. Perhaps the poster child ferry of why sustained and timely investment in capital infrastructure replacement is important.
I'm far too lazy to read back on the all service notice type posts, but I am pretty confident, excluding crew issues, that more than 5% of Alberni sailings were cancelled this year.

On December 22 the Queen of New Westminster started the day on Route 1, running about 75 minutes late due to terminal delays from snow/ice. Then at about 1pm, while the vessel was sailing to Swartz Bay from Tsawwassen, it was redirected to sail Route 30 for the afternoon shift. The Queen of Alberni was broken down, I believe due to frozen pipes bursting, on its first day back from refit.
Anyways, I was on the "2pm" sailing of the New West to Tsawwassen (leaving at 325pm) and was actually headed to Nanaimo trying to avoid the highway - I walked on. I had been totally prepared to sit in Tsawwassen for a few hours and brought some work with me. As luck would have it, I just stayed on the New West and actually ended up beating a family member that was driving the same day at roughly the same time. The L route was about four hours from when I walked on to walked off.

That's the cooler for the beer (and wine?); I am similarly unsure of what the question is though. Perhaps that the cooler is on a vessel not assigned to Route 1?

They Never Announce "Attention on the outer deck. Ship will whistle and is very loud, cover your ears" and they always forgot to announce about deck 5 is closed for the sailing. Deck 5 has been closed for 1.5 decades. I think your average Route 30 rider gets it by now.

www.instagram.com/reel/Clr5BqCpbOs/?igshid=YzdkMWQ2MWU=Interesting I was on the 11am sailing (the one before this) and that little arm that goes over the anchor line kept going up and down in Swartz Bay. There was a ton of trainees on the ship, I had just passively assumed it had something to do with that, and maybe it did and my observation is just unrelated happenstance. In any event glad there's no injuries!
