I've done it a few times. I normally like to people watch on the other deck, but if I want to take a nap, the car is the best spot.
When ever I think of potential disasters on ferries, I think of the some of the old rules my grandfather talked about on the Great Lakes ferries like your gas tank must be either empty or 1/8 full...and of course they didn't allow passengers unless you had a fancy "open deck" ferry.

One of the truck drivers I know at my work has been doing runs via BC Ferries and other services for several decades and he was telling me while the meat pre-White Spot were basically hockey pucks, the eggs were always good.

I'm taking the ferry to Sidney next month and will be driving up from Portland. I already booked a reservation and from looking at WSF's website, it looks like I should plan to arrive at the terminal in Anacortes at around 7:00 AM ish for the 8:25 departure? That sounds about right. You will want to make sure to leave enough time to get through the line, and remember that 0825 means that the ferry will be leaving about that time -- the loading starts before that. Depending on your budget and time, you might want to spend the night somewhere in the neighborhood near the ferry. As someone who just moved from SW Portland last month, I can tell you that a 6-hour drive is no way to start your day for a nice trip through the San Juan Islands. Just a thought. You might also want to consider a reservation. Have fun! Bryan -- K7BRY I have a reservation already so I am good. What time does the booth at the termianl open for check in? Six hours? Usually on trips to Vancouver, BC and beyond, I get to Mt Vernon around the 5 hour mark.

You know, reading about the current situation with BC Ferries, I want to predict that in the not too distant future that the management company might revert back to a crown corp; kind of repeating history with the old Puget Sound Navigation Company eons ago.

I took the MV Coho southbound last year and its sure an interesting ship. It reminds me of the ferries that operated on the Great Lakes that my grandfather used to take but more polished.
The food selection though...seemed more like from a high school football game.
