As long as you make a reservation, you should be just fine for the 6:20am. Summer weekends tend to be a little busier than on weekdays. The reservation fee is $15.00 if made more than a week prior to departure otherwise, $17.50 if made within 7 days.

The rudder is now fixed. Now, they're having problems with a blockage in the cooling system for the engines. I have no idea how long that will take to repair.

It would appear that the capital city of Cascadia is Smithers, BC. That will change quickly. What?? I thought it was Spuzzum. ;D

No, they do not. A twin screw ship like the Spirits, does just fine when docking, when one prop is set in reverse while the other is in forward thrust and while using the bow thrusters makes the ship wanting to pivot nicely for ease of docking. Pod systems are used extensively on large cruise ships such as Queen Mary 2 although, she has had numerous problems with them. Other ships with the Pods also need frequent dry docking to fix issues that come up from time-to-time as it's still a fairly new technology.

Ferries lined up @ BC Ferries' Deas Dock Maintenance Base ( Victoria or Vancouver, Burnaby, Pacificat Voyager) - c 2000 photo © Mr. DOT by Wett Coast, on Flickr The ferry at the left is either the Queen of Victoria or its twin, the Vancouver. Using several clues, I am now pretty much sure that this is the Victoria, and the photo was taken about 6 months she left our waters in January 2001. The ferry in the middle is definitely the Queen of Burnaby. You can read the name of the ferry on the right. Mr. DOT - your recollections please. Also, the thoughts of others are welcome.
Definitely the Victoria. I say this because there is a somewhat large black band at the top of the funnel. The Vancouver has almost no black band on hers.

Right after the disaster White Star installed extra lifeboats aboard her sister Olympic. Meanwhile, in 1913 when Britannic came along she had gantry davits that held 3 lifeboats each.
A side note, Olympic had a 24 year career. She was scrapped in 1934.
Titanic sank in 1912.
Britannic hit a mine in WWI and sank in 1916.

The movie shown down on the car deck was "Raise the Titanic"followed right after with "The Last Voyage" I hate the way the Ill De France was blown-up, burned-out, and half sunk in that one....

I'll be there! I think she's doing the suplemental sailings on Route 1. However, before getting down there, we're going from an un-disclosed location over to Langdale to pick up crew from the Sunshine Coast. I wouldn't recomend trying to follow her progress on SiiTech, the AIS is broken as per usual since Chris spilled Jordan's ale in to the unit! I don't remember much of last years trip and passed out down on the mooring flats trying but not succeeding to get back down to the engine room. P.S. Jordan had a little fire in the galley while cooking the ale so we set him up down in one of the void tanks with easier accsess to the bilge water!

Bowen Queen is just passing the southern tip of Texada Island presumably on her way to Departure Bay at 13.4 knots.

A friend of mine rode on the Bowen Queen from Saltery Bay to Earls Cove a couple days ago. Since I hadn't been on her since her last refit, I asked if he could take a few pics for me so I could post them here. Aboard the 1520 sailing from Saltery Bay. Apparently one vehicle was left behind. It appears that someone at BCF listened to passenger complaints about the metal seating and lack of tables on the Mayne Queen. Upper lounge/snack bar area: One of the saddle lounges: It will be interesting to see if they make adjustments to the MQ's seating during her next refit. It doesn't make sense to me to have plusher seating on the BQ than on the MQ, since the BQ is a relief vessel and some routes on which it operates are quite short. The MQ is the permanent route 5A ship, and sails longer segments on a regular basis. Keep in mind that Bowen Queen works Summers opposite Queen of Nanaimo on Route 9A. BCFS may have wanted the same calibre of seating that Nanny has to make-up for BQ not having as many amenities. Although, I do agree that Mayne Queen should have had this interior rather than what we wound up with.

With all the work being done to Tenaka in tha past few years, the money spent would have gone a long way towards a new ship.
Let's face it, Tenaka is 48 years old she can't be expected to last forever.

Unfortunately, we lost Sagafjord last year. Her final name was Saga Rose. She went to the scrappers in China. Her sister Vistafjord is still around now known as Saga Ruby and does exclusive cruises for the over 50 crowd.

I was zooming some of Wet Coast's photos of her and she did have the teak rails. Up until a refit in October 1971 that photo shows them missing.

This ship was originally the Spirit of London & sailed for Princess Cruises' parent company, P&O.
I love this shot of Sun Princess ex-Spirit of London! She's been cheating Alang for a few years now, but has a gig doing cruises around Singapore. For how long, who knows, it will be a sad day when she inevitably winds up on the beach.

I would think these photos were taken in 1979. I was on her in the Spring of '79 and she didn't have the "Bella Bella door" installed at that time.
1979 was also the last year that she called into Kelsey Bay once the new Bear Cove terminal opened in Port Hardy. These may have been her last few visits to Kelsey Bay.

Ok, this is a message to everyone, don't try and be something you're not. It's not cool. Be real. Context ? - I don't get your point. It's a line from the movie Starsky & Hutch.

Hello sglinn, Welcome to the forum! Yes, I am most interested in former keepers at Lucy Island. My Brother-in-Law and Sister were stationed there from '82-'87. They were the last keepers as Lucy was de-staffed and automated at that time.
The houses were burned down and all the buildings around the tower were removed also.

The cruise industry should be held accountable. There seems to be a one-up-man-ship between the lines who has the biggest, most grandiose ship. Did it not occur to the brass of these companies that there could be a issue with making sure three thousand or so passengers could be evacuated with having so few crew trained in MED's? I think the industry as a whole will need to make some serious changes in crew make-up. They should be able to when you think of all the money they get off of the people that take these cruises By the way, I heard this morning that Carnival is offering $15.000 US to each passenger for their lost belongings. Shut-up money so they won't sue I'd imagine.
