Ok, first news article on Chelan's grounding: I guess we will have to wait for later news article for some geographic specifics, written by someone who realizes that islands and passages have names. ....and written from a perspective that isn't referring to "Up" in the San Juan Islands.

im not easily satisfied when my bs meter is going off so i asked around. ive discovered hullo has something seriously wrong with their other boat. my first source is saying this is something to do with the engines. my other source is being even more precise, saying it was a log strike. both these sources work for different organisations and do not know eachother. this is the reason for the sudden schedule reduction. Thanks for this. That situation would explain why it is always the same ship being used on this route.

I'm trying to book myself to work in Vancouver next Friday so I can try whatever the downstairs is called? Steerage? The lower-class for Hullo is probably called "Hey" or "Yo"

Some general thoughts in no particular order, with an overall comment that today's round trip was very pleasant. Thanks Dane. I appreciate your live-experience reporting on this, same as your V2V reporting a few years ago.

One more thing on Hullo and their frequent use of the phrase "Warm Regards" in their social media messaging.
I've encountered "Warm Regarders" before in business, and sometimes I wish I could exchange every warm regard for just 1 bit of hard information or helpful word.
But warm regards is all that I received and it didn't help me.

It looked like the morning sailing went off without a hitch. However, Vesselfinder shows both boats in Nanaimo, meaning no 6:30 sailing from Vancouver? Vesselfinder seems glitchy right now. SiiTEch shows both ships at Nanaimo, at 6:00pm. Both ship readings are from just a few minutes ago. Of course, there's no mention of the evening round-trip cancellation on the Hullo website or Facebook page. But there are plenty of photos of the Hullo team looking like they are posing for a game show or something.

Guess what? That's me!! I won the contest for Victoria's worst sidewalk of 2023! I was interviewed on the news today about it which was awesome, I had never been on the news before! Thought I'd share with you folks. That is awesome (your work in winning the contest, not the sidewalk, haha). I saw this on CHEK news twice this evening, at 5pm & again at 6. Thanks for mentioning it here, so I could make the connection to you and your West Coast Ferries persona. Bravo !

I wonder if the word "Hullo" translates to "Coastal Link Ferries" in some languages.
(that's all I've got for this thread)

Here are the two ferries in Ferguson Shipyards fiasco. Thanks for this, Paul. I'm enjoying your trip photos. PS: I like how auto-correct adds drama to a post

The conversation of Jumbo Mark II to hybrid vessels came in over budget but will be start this September 2023 with last one to complete by August 2025: This is proof that sometimes talk is not cheap.

Did a day trip today with a friend, to Galiano. She's such a good friend that I forgive her utter lack of interest in ferries, to the extent that our conversation causes me to not even pay attention to what Salish vessel I'm on. Anyway... partway to Galiano, the announcement was made that the toilets were not flushing. Not just one, but all of them. And upon arriving at Sturdies Bay, I noticed that water- of whatever quality- was falling from the car deck ceiling onto a vehicle nearby. Given the frequency of cancellations in our marine transit system, I was concerned about us getting back on the scheduled 4:45 sailing from Galiano. Maybe one of our BC Ferries or marine industry experts can weigh in, but I don't suppose Transport Canada would allow a passenger vessel to set sail with 500 passengers, and no functioning toilets. Sounds like you were actually crossing Hecate Strait and your boat was not of the Salish class ... Replying to say that I get the reference. ...and then sometimes even though the sailing was over, the trip wasn't. That stern door decided how much overtime would happen in the Cadillac of the fleet.

MV "k" (Tachek) en route from Heriot Bay (Quadra Is) to Cortes Island - seen from the nearby Taku Resort.
31 May 2023 Thanks for this photo, and the others too, from Taku. (rhyme is intentional) After an absence of a few years, we returned to Taku in October 2022, enjoying a cabin stay for a few nights. I love the daily rhythm of the Cortes ferry, giving a sense of time to an otherwise clock-free atmosphere at that resort

Is this really Tsawwassen? Kinda strange seeing her Vancouver Island/Langdale end touch a mainland hub terminal. Rather early to prepare for an April Fool's thing WSF has done by rotating the vessels 180 degrees for the day. Greetings, good sir. This photo was taken shortly after QUEEN OF OAK BAY completed a refit at the nearby fleet maintenance facility. The ship was at berth-1, away from the main route berths, and so this also makes sense for this being a short stay before she did sea-trials on the next day. (and "Go Kraken !")

What I've found in learning to use new cameras, is that YouTube has instruction and advice videos on almost any topic: Cameras, toasters, bicycles, dishwashers.
Most people should be able to find a style and depth of instructional video that suits them best.

Thanks for this view. It reminds me that it's been too long since I last took a trip on that ship. I need to experience it again.

BC Ferries - Baynes Sound Connector Departure:
This video of mine shows the loading and departure of the BC Ferries cable ferry "Baynes Sound Connector" at Buckley Bay, on Vancouver Island.
The cable ferry's destination is Denman Island.
Seen by me on March 26, 2023, from the E&N Railway bridge.

Love your videos and photos! I can completely relate, it makes life much easier not having to switch lenses all the time, simplicity is the best! I still watch your Queen of Nanaimo video whenever I need something relaxing, ferry horns can be quite soothing! In fact, I'm gonna watch it again right now! Thanks so much.

...and I am sure that guys like Wettcoast and Low Light Mike would also be will to add their two cents. I'm the "non-interchangeable lens guy" here, and I enjoy shooting with two different types of fixed-lens Sony cameras. My larger camera is a Sony DSC-RX10 (mark iv), and my new vlogging camera is a little Sony DSC-RX100 (mark vii). For me, it's the simplicity of a fixed lens camera that I enjoy. I'm limiting myself, for sure. But I'm ok with that #Content.

Here is my video of Queen of Cumberland's loading problems with 2 oversize load trucks at Earls Cove, from today. The delay was around 30-45 minutes Oh my, what a gong show. Numerous calls to "hey, stop. hey, stop" with no response. I noted that the clearance heights are marked above each side of the car deck. Congratulations Ollie, on a soon-to-be viral video. You were definitely in the right place at the right time.

Tomorrow, March 22nd, is the 17th anniversary of the loss of Queen of the North. March 22, 2006. I was able to travel on her, on 3 routes: - Route 2 from Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay, as Queen of Surrey, in 1974 or 1975 (see photo below). - Inside Passage northbound in 2004 - Repositioning trip from Port Hardy to Tsawwassen in October 2005. (see photo below) My father took this photo, in the mid 1970s.
