Is that our now very infrequent contributor, Kather Anne? That is her. You can find her at a Facebook photo group called "Vancouver Island Images." One of the most interesting people that I've ever met on the internet.

I see you have a movie agent on Hornby who has already posted your film to the island's facebook page. When you left the Co-op gas station, you briefly turned on to Sollans, as if you were heading to my place (I wasn't on the island) but then you turned around. How come? You could have continued down and seen the controversial Warhol soup can water tank. My friend Katherine had a no-fee special on film distribution to the Word-of-Mouth group, so I took advantage of it. - I try to be a member of the prime local Facebook group on each island that I visit, so that I can share vacation photos or work-trip photos like this. Sometimes the group lets me join (Sointula, Pender, SaltSpring, Gabriola), and other times I get the non-local thumbs-down. I was wondering how much commercial or community-service things were near the Sollans & Central intersection, so I did the brief turn-off to see the library area, just out of curiosity. I figured it was the 2nd busiest corner on the island. I forgot that I could have continued down that road to Grassy Point and gotten back to Central Road further on. My other excuse is that I was aiming to catch a ferry, to get home in time to watch the Super Bowl.

Here is a dashboard camera view of a car & ferry trip from Fanny Bay area to Hornby Island, and back. I went to Hornby for a work trip (the video will show you where), and so I had camera fun on my trip.
I post this as a tribute to those who've done this journey before me: - To the farmers with their wagons on the Water Lily - To the Studebakers on the Hornby Island V - To the Dung Bomb on the Quinitsa

I agree with 'Neil' that indeed we are much the poorer for having our photo-history "scuttled" by platform owners who are totally hard-wired into the almighty profit, at all costs business model. SAD! COVFEFE !

the websites do not work? A lot of hosting websites have a short life, or at least shorter than the 11 years since those horn recordings were uploaded. We've seen that with photos, and you hear that with horns. This here forum is a collection of many different personally held & hosted collections. The images and sounds only appear here if the links work, and the links only work if the hosting site and account still exists.

My Gravelly Bay view of Kahloke on a trip from Hornby to Denman: - morning of February 4, 2018.
She takes a storm-course to keep herself bow-into-the-wind until the last moment, and then does a tight turn into the terminal area.

The summer schedule for the new boat has it operating daytime only, with the longest sailing day being 10 1/2 hours. I guess they'll be crewed out of Port Hardy, and finding overnight accommodation in Bella Coola. I suspect that the crew accommodation will be on-board the Northern Sea Wolf.

I think that she will spend a good part of that time in drydock and then at Fraser Marine Unit (Deas refit facility). I think that she's only a Departure Bay for a short time until her drydock date at Vancouver. It puzzles me why Salish Raven is not replacing her, but Bowen Queen. The Raven is at Deas. I think that the Raven is getting her own refit done now, for warranty and other work.

I walked part-way up the stairs on the bridge side of the vessel, wondering if this was a passenger sundeck, or just a crew area where they forgot to display the crew-only sign. So I stopped half way, and went back to the car deck. Jeez, what a rookie mistake. That sun deck access was added two or three years ago. On a vessel this spartan, you can't afford to miss any 'amenities'. I came over on the 3:40 from Gravelly on Sunday. Which sailing were you on? haha, the shame. I left Hornby on the 1:00pm sailing. 4 vehicles in total on that sailing.

I have kinda of a silly questions , I will be taking a route that has two other stops before we reach our destination . we will be leaving Swartz bay , stopping at Pender Island , then Mayne Island and then on to Galiano Island where we will be getting off . Do we have to move our car at each port or can we stay up top while the other passengers get off at each island ? Thank you for your help Great question. The multi-port trips are one of the more interesting types of trips for this very reason. When you get to the Swartz Bay toll booth and tell them your destination island, they give you a card to put on your dashboard. When you board the ferry at Swartz Bay, they see the card and put you into the appropriate lane on the ship so that you don't need to move your car. When you get to each intermediate port, stay up top, go outside, and don't worry about the car deck. Just make sure that you return to you car for the correct destination. It's a good system.
