B.C. Ferries has no plans to move its Victoria-based headquarters to Nanaimo, says a spokeswoman.
"We have no plans to move at this time," Deborah Marshall told the Nanaimo Daily News.
She also dispelled a rumour that the company was contemplating moving into space at the New Nanaimo Centre. While Marshall was aware of the NNC project, she said she had no prior knowledge of the NNC's location.
There has also been talk for years that the ferry company would leave its current digs on Fort Street in Victoria and move to the Swartz Bay ferry terminal property.
But Marshall said it has since been determined there isn't enough property at the terminal location to house the head office.
"We need the property at Swartz Bay for a (vehicle) holding compound for our customers," she said.
Al Kenning, Nanaimo's deputy city manager, said while the city is negotiating with a number of possible tenants for the NNC, he is not aware of any discussions with B.C. Ferries.
