Kevin Falcon in favour of naming ferry Spirit of Hartley Bay
March 30, 2006 - 7:32 pm By: Claudia Kwan
BCs Minister of Transportation says he likes the idea of renaming a BC ferry the Spirit of Hartley Bay. Kevin Falcon says it would be appropriate to honour the heroic efforts of the people who rescued passengers and crew after the Queen of the North sank a week ago. The ferry's replacement is the one that would be renamed. He also says he's aware of continuing environmental concerns over fuel still leaking from the wreck. He's planning on visiting the village himself to talk to people about the problem.

I heard some upcoast people are wanting to short list the name of the new ferry to 'Queen of Unconscionable Delays'.

It is something that must be done. A small comunity that gets up in the middle of the night to rescue passengers from a sinking ship, definetly deserves a ship named after them.

It is the least BCFS could do for a community that helped rescue its passengers and crew. If it was not for the people of Hartley Bay, the incident could have been much worse...
