Hi folks:
Does anyone know the general specifications for the three replacement ships for the Northern runs, or if any specs have been developed at all?
I'm not talking about any leased ships that they may get, but rather the ships that they're looking to build.
Will they be roughly the same sizes as the current vessels (North, Prince Rupert, Chilliwack)?
Will BC Ferries settle on one type of ship and build three vessels from the same plans, or will they build three unique vessels?
Now with the crew requiring cabins above the water line, I trust that would lead to a significant redesign if any specs have been developed. Any thoughts on that?
Are there any newer designs with the Scandinavian or Mediterranean ferry services that would work in BC's waters?

The specs -
fit in BC Ferries berths, or close enough to modify.
LOL there's more, buried here, somewhere.

That is all we know so far is that their breadth has to be 22.5 meters. I believe they should have bigger capacities than the current Northern Vessels. There should be some special things that make the vessels worth remembering like the Queen of the North.

BCFS does have people in Europe right now (or recently returned?) looking for (a) ship(s)

Is it really worth to get something that moves and is completely grusome and have it stick around for 10 years when the run depends somewhat on tourism?

Tourists are more concerned with the interior and natural beauty 2. $350 has been exproiated for 3 new vessels, if a replacement were found it is likely that the replacement would be short lived 3. Why would you suspend service because you can't find a nice ship...
