The new site is pretty awful.
It's slow and bloated.
You have time to go get a coffee after every click on the new reservation system.
I haven't even tried my experience account yet - I'm sure it will be a real fun experience...

Yes the new web site is not what I would call new and improved. It is still painfully slow at times. Making a reservation will take you an age!
The home page seems to be more into promoting the nail maintenance service than information on the transportation service offered by BC Ferries. Many of the pages accessed from the home page remain fairly much the same as before.

If I hadn't read your warnings I would have thought my computer was frozen. Terrible! Like I want to spend half an hour for the privilege of giving them $17.50...

Here it is the 21st of June, the first day of summer ;D, and the official BCFS website is still running at a 'molasses in January' speed. Quite frankly this is unacceptable. Running an efficient web site should be a priority for the new and improved BC Ferry Services so-called private company.

The new BCF site is faster than ever on my computer, and it has been since it first came out. Just out of curiosity, what internet browser do you use, and what model? (ie, I use Google Chrome, the latest version. You might use internet explorer, version 9, or 8, I don't know...) Older internet browsers tend to be slower on newer sites, so maybe if you upgrade your browser to the newest available version, it'll speed up the BCF site.

I am using Google Chrome that reports the version as '12.0.742.100'. In general I have an acceptable or better performance on almost all websites, including this here forum. I am using a Telus enhanced ADSL connection (yes, we have that, even in the small places well beyond Hope). It is on certain BCFS sub-sites such as the Service Notices that I find performance to be pathetic. The same goes for the schedule and reservations. Having said all of that I just tried now and all seems to be working fine. Perhaps they have a problem when there are more than so many connections at one time.

Site has been up and down for the last three hours. I've noticed the same thing, as well as icons on the headbar of this here forum being invisible for the past day or so.

The BCFS board of directors says that in spite of the website being down today, it's still a better website than they had in the 1970s and 80s.

:)what balderdash! of course websites are commonplace today, and the email world was not even on most people's radar in the 1980's, and most of us including me were rite out of the loop! But we had a world class fleet back then! We built thirteen or more real steel ships for the old toll auth. and also built quite a number for the old highways dept. fleet as well, and many of those vessels still serve under the pvte. ent. BS screen! As for the old burgers vs. today's white spot menu, I am remembering back to when they served real first class grub in those old dogwood dining rooms for $3.50 complete meal, not any fast food modern style! yes your not kidding, times have changed, with our million dollar plus man at the helm! ::)mrdot.

Weather-related website breakage: Note the "N/A" next sailing even though there are three MD sailings left in the service day.

Is it just me or are the 'Vessel Position' pages on the BCFS web site frozen in time at 8:40 PM last night? I have tied getting up to date info using three different browsers & on different computers, all with the same results.

Anyone notice that the ship positions for route 2 in the "reserve and plan" (RBI) section have been inaccurate all this week? It's been showing the Coquitlam and Cowichan on the route, even when it was the Coquitlam and Oak Bay. And it's STILL showing the Coq and Cow even though the Coq is also shown on route 30 with the Alberni! I phoned customer service tonight and asked them about it. Once the (very pleasant) agent understood my question, she put me on hold for about 5 minutes. When she came back on the line, she told me the info was correct and that because both routes are sharing Departure Bay terminal, the Coquitlam was, in fact, operating on both routes at the same time. I asked her how the Coquitlam was departing Departure Bay at 0515 bound for Tsawwassen, AND departing Horseshoe Bay at 0630 bound for Departure Bay. The line went silent for a couple seconds, then I was put on hold for another 5 minutes. THEN she came back on the line and took my name and phone number. 30 minutes later, she called me back and said that there was an error on the site and it would be looked into.

Live departures and major terminal conditions have been updated to show route 30 operating out of DPB rather than Duke Point.

I noticed something tonight when looking at the vessel tracker for route 30. When I "hover" over the Coastal Renaissance or Coastal Inspiration, it shows the outline of a Spirit class I seem to remember this happening for a time in the past, but has anyone else noticed it more recently?

Yep, defintely there, and easy enough to fix. But not something that would make a person run out of a room in a panic. True enough, but I have the type of personality where things like this make me very irritated. Same as when they leave a service notice posted a week after the situation is over. The carelessness and sloppiness gets me very stressed out, but that's just the way I am. I do realize that it's my problem and that I'm in the minority
