This CBC story has more details, about the truck being the last vehicle to disembark from the ferry (ie. unloading, not loading), and accelerating rapidly and smashing through a concrete wall on the upper ramp area: Story Here

Is it too late for April Fool's??? Well, maybe. Wishful thinking of the author of that story. I think those would be better suited for longer trips than the PHD-PRT run. A multi-level forward observatory with massive heavily tinted glass and subdued lighting for round the clock viewing of scenery by day and navaids, lighthouses, passing ships, the moon, stars, and lighted communities at night. A crows nest snack lounge. Lots of staterooms. The list goes on and on. Perfect ships for providing views of the stunning mountainous northern scenery! Wishful thinking ... Wishful thinking ...

This also affects tonight's sailing to Port Hardy. I was going to be on that sailing but I cancelled a couple of weeks ago.

Do Mayne Queen and Powell River Queen still stay in service? They were supposed to live longer because there was less people.

Two boat service on Quadra Island route could possibly come at any point this year but this would come with schedule change which might need week or two for public to look at plan around. The Salish Class coming to route 5 possible but this would need have schedule change which I doubt would be last minute due route 9.

It's indisputable that BC Ferries service has never been more undependable than it has been this summer.
There's no margin for error. A combination of chronic staffing shortages and an aging fleet is causing so many problems. A police incident last night cause multiple sailing cancellations today. Breakdowns are chronic. Mark Collins gets fired, and I guess it could be a complicated argument about how much of the staff shortages are caused by a lack of new blood in maritime industries, covid, or crappy conditions that BC Ferries offers new workers. People decry the new provincial intrusion into governance of the ferry system, but...can it be any worse than what the 'private' model has led us to? Your reservation is no longer any assurance you're going to get to where you need to be.
I've got a day trip reserved for Tuesday with my daughters to Salt Spring. In the past, I never would have had concerns about getting there or back, but I do now. And if our plans go awry, it won't be news. It will be par for the course this summer.

Oh, thanks, CHEK 6. You've just informed banned miscreants how to beat security; get a better wig, and practice your accent. I always wondered, with 22 million passengers a year, how BC Ferries could possibly keep track of the few who weren't allowed to sail. Turns out that even at a smaller terminal like Campbell River, they're on the ball. Also reinforces my decision to never try to cover up my shiny dome with a rug. They're ridiculous.

Smaller terminals are in some ways easier - everybody knows everybody, wig or no wig...

I can't imagine how dumb this person was how much yakking does it take to board the Quadra ferry as a foot passenger? 'One''Thank You'

Apparently BC Ferries had a problem at Earls Cove yesterday. A big truck got stuck on the loading ramp leading to the cancellation of sailings until the tide changed enough to get the truck unstuck. I do not know if the Queen of Cumberland currently being on that route complicated the situation, but I think that they might have been using the secondary berth. The news report says nothing about that.

It did seem like yesterday had pretty extreme tides as well; the ramp onto my ferry was basically parallel to the water. And we made a 1h15 crossing on Route 1! Wonder if that contributed to the terminal difficulty with the truck.
