Ok Cosmic Ray well this what I did from what you were describing. Like I said another Queen of Capilano, kind of ... Anyone else?? It looks quite plausible in light of recent designs. You just need to do something about the masts on this one... they look like they'd make her roll over.

You just need to do something about the masts on this one... they look like they'd make her roll over. I think both the masts and funnel would have to go. I cant see a funnel running up through the middle of the wheelhouse. A smaller mast, however, would no doubt adorn the top of the wheelhouse.

Intresting Concept for a new Ferry. It would be intresting if BCF and/or WSF picked it up. The WSF one I think would look better. I think I prefer the NorAd in Expo Colours. Ever Thought of doing some of the Smaller Vessels in the BCF Fleet, One that holds 50 Cars or less?

Honestly, I haven't really thought of doing them. Ok well maybe a few... I like the NorAd in Expo Colours also. I don't really like the wave on her.. The NorAd isn't the only one that the Waves look bad on... the Queen of Prince Rupert looks pretty oafish in the wave scheme too. It's mostly because there's just the one stripe, and they put it up way too high on the side so it doesn't follow the curve of the hull.

Wow Ok I retract my comment about" I don't plan on drawing any of the ones that look like barges with a wheelhouse." Because enough people have asked for this one I thought I might as well. Here she is The Mill Bay! That's quite nice. I'm glad you changed your mind.

Once Again Some Great Work, Keep it up. One thing I don't get is why some people call the Queen of the North and the Wickersham Sisters. Aren't they more like Cousins?

Here is another what if that I can't help but to say I think she looks really good this way. The Sunshine Coast Queen aka Susy Q. If you want to know more about the Suzy-Q's history, and history of the Mackinac Strait ferries, I've started a new thread that has a series of articles on that subject: ferriesbc.proboards20.com/index.cgi?board=otherna&action=display&thread=1205939634It's a long thread, but it's there so that you can read it a bit at a time, if you're interested.

Great showing the various relatives of the Spaulding Clan. The good old V's are the Joan Rivers (or Cher) of the Ferry World. So much work you can barely recongize where they began.

Just noticed that the funnels were made taller during stretching on the V's. Does anyone know why?

They were raised to improve the airflow so the exhaust from the engines going up the stack was further away from the passenger areas. You can see the seam (looks like a ridge) if you look closely where the previous stack ended and the extension one was added.

Nicely done! I particularly like the Silver Strand, which was the first Elwha up here. Too bad all but one of those boats ended up junked...Even though the San Diego is still with us much of her passenger cabin is burned out from the fire they had.
Excellent work!

There have been some allegations that some of the drawings on this thread are/were borrowed or taken from another member's drawings.
ie. plagerized....
And there have been denials re the same issue.
So, my suggestion is that if anyone has concerns over their work being used in an unauthorized manner, or wishes to respond to those allegations, that this here thread would be a great place to do that. ie. let's have it out in the open.
If people feel strongly enough about an issue like this, then this here thread is as good a place to air those feelings.
....and if you're confused by reading this and wondering what I might be referring to, then you're likely not involved and that's ok. Just sit back and enjoy these wonderful drawings. I'm sure that if there are any legit concerns re their ownership / lineage, that those concerns will be posted here too, so that you can enjoy the work and also understand the various ownership claims.....and then let you (the viewer of the work) decide if it's tainted-art or not.

Very nice to see the life progression of this now retired ferry whose service on the coast has come to an end.
It seems that there has been some purging of images from this thread though, which is sad to see as the drawings were all very well done and provoked some interesting thoughts on how easily the threads of history could have been changed by the different what-if concepts and how something as simple as colour can completely change the personality of our favorite ferries.

Ok this is a request. Hope you like her. Ah the old Smokey. What a funny little boat she was. Excellent rendering, which, given her quirky lines, couldn't have been easy to do. I was talking to a fellow on the boat the other day that remembers the Smokwa well from her cannery days in Alaska. He said he had no idea of her history until he stumbled on to my website. I asked if he had any photos of her, but he didn't think so. Still, it was interesting to talk to someone who actually remembered the boat.
