She could be in for some heavy weather coming north. The storm will have passed through by Monday but it will probably still be rough out on the open seas.

With cruise ships, they usually allow two days to get from the last port they go to in Mexico which I believe to be Cabo San Lucas or Mazatlan, they take two days to get back to Los Angeles.

"That's 342 nautical miles down, 2000 nautical miles to go" borrowing a similar saying from moderator John Charles Daly on that classic 17-year panel game show "WHAT'S MY LINE?". MV SONIA is on her home stretch now. 342 nautical miles from Manzanillo, 2000 nautical miles to go to Victoria! From BCF, 12-13-2006, 1157PST: Port of Origin: Piraeus, Greece Next stop and final destination: Victoria, British Columbia, Canada (distance: 2000 nm) Position: Lat 21 deg 35’ 21” N / Lon 109 deg 08’ 09” W Course: 301 Speed: 18.8 knots Notes: MV Sonia is expected to arrive in Victoria on December 18/19 - exact date to be confirmed. Well I guess we can officially say that our little "Sonia" is officially on the WEST COAST now! Just a little while longer till she arrives in Victoria! I wonder how close to the shore she will be when she sails up the West Coast. I wonder if you could see her from San Diego or LA. It would be neat to see a BC Ferry go past San Diego and LA, lol!

Put Speedy Gonzales at the wheel. He's still within hearing range. The SONIA could be in Victoria this afternoon! Just see Sylvester and Daffy try and thwart this action!! LOL
BTW, a copy of any pic of the SONIA off San Diego should be donated to the San Diego Maritime Museum, West Coast's premier maritime museum. Great collection of ships and the West Coast's first successful propeller ferry, the STR BERKELEY. The pic goes into the BERKELEY's great library's photo collection.

the surfers will not likely see her. she will be to far out for them to realize that it is a ferry and not a cruise ship

"Northern Adventure"??
"Gee, gang, here we are on our vacation to the coastal inlets of British Columbia, but man, is it ever BORING so far!! I feel like commiting some kind of murder/suicide just to alleviate the bone crushing depression that this thoroughly uninteresting holiday has bestow-GEE WHIZ GOLLY GOSH! Look at the name of our ferry! How original! How splendid! How inspirational! Surely, this car ferry must be pretty darn awesome if she's named "Northern Adventure"! Suddenly, I feel like visiting the north and going on an adventure! Finally, our vacation will be like those incredibly cheesy 'visit Canada's wilderness' commercials they played to us in Duluth! Joy! Rapture!"
*sighs* F#!$ing corporate bureaucrats.

Thanks Fenklebaum, that is exactly the right word I was looking for. Don't worry Hahn has been called out, better yet, I am putting a few on notice.

Hey Karl (or anyone else),
Notes: MV Sonia is expected to arrive in Victoria on December 18/19 - exact date to be confirmed.
I'm just trying to picture the location of the drydock from Ogden Point.
Would the Sonia have to pass the lighthouse at Ogden Point to get to Esquimalt, or would it be a more direct route if she went the long way around?

I am currently in Victoria ready for the arrival of the Sonia. If, as my signature says, any of you want to meet-up to witness her arrival, call me on my cel (If you're worried about long-distance costs, I can call you back when you call).
Cheers, Graham

A BELATED WELCOME HOME TO YOUR NEW WATERS, MV SONIA! Ever since my last posting on this thread, my lights have been out. They went out just within an hour or two of my posting the evening of December 14. They are still out. I finally got access to a computer today and am posting the final edition of the SONIA TRACKER. My thanks to you others who took up the slack between the 14th and the 18th. I was able to track the SONIA's arrival on CFAX 1070, a station I get here in northern Seattle during the day (this station's signal fights with Los Angeles' KNX 1070 at night). Wonderful photos, folks!! For the crew of the MV SONIA, an early 2010 GOLD MEDAL performance for bringing the mighty ship to her new waters safely. You all deserve a Christmas vacation. For the MV SONIA, your multi sea adventure is complete. And with your appearance in remarkableness (except for rusty anchors and areas, which is to be expected)!! Your SONIA nameplate gets an honourable retirement. We all look forward in seeing you out again in your new nameplate of MV NORTHERN ADVENTURE. New adventures are ahead of you!!!!! From BCF, 12-18-2006, FINAL EDITION: Port of Origin: Piraeus, Greece Final destination: Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Position: Lat 48 deg 26’ 14” N / Lon 123 deg 26’ 00” W Notes: The Motor Vessel Sonia is securely docked at the Victoria Shipyards. She arrived safely in the afternoon of December 18th. BCF's next update: NOT APPLICABLE! VOYAGE COMPLETE!!! THE END
