well said hardy, and a lot of people don`t realize that all commercial vehicles pay that premium rate, even small 1-tons because they happen to have a [company] name on the door Actually, that is not accurate. Commercial vehicle rates apply when your rated GVW is above 5500kg. Below 5500kg GVW, you also cannot use your COMMERCIAL TRAVEL CARD (this has been a sore spot for me, in forcing me to have 7 cards as opposed to 4!). Commercial vehicles under 5500kg GVW are rated as OVERHEIGHT and pay the lower rate that campers etc do. Note: rules for displaying your actual registered GVW on the side of your commercial truck was revoked around 1999. It is no longer legally necessary to have your GVW decalled on the outside of yoru truck. While it is obvious that a 24' van truck is over 5500kg, there are times when you can roll up to the BCFS tollbooth in a 16' van truck which is really a 3-ton (8000kg) and get away with the o/h rate for a smaller vehicle... I don't advocate "cheating" the system, but there are times when I have not corrected a BCFS employee when they have mistaken a larger truck for a simple overheight vehicle...

Actually these are going to be the new Sub-Intermediate vessels.
The tenders have already been signed, and BC Ferries plans to mass produce them as a generic, no-name brand of personal sized ferries.
In effect, the company is going to go public, by providing everyone in B.C. with their own little stake in the ferries and give them their own personal ferry. They hope to completely spin off the ferry service within ten years, once enough of these personal sized ferries have been produced to cover the demand for all routes. They expect all issues regarding, schedules, fares and the cost of financing new vessels (these ones only cost $5 to build) will be quickly solved by this solution.
The ferries, which it was determined better not to name because of the lack of individuality, can be presented at any terminal for instant passage on any route at a drastically reduced rate. The only condition is, you will have to ride your own ferry (because it is personally yours) and BC Ferries cannot provide a crew for it. The upside is, you can have your own personal salt-water shower.
The photos do show the ferry at it's actual size (the giant hand is merely a photo-edited concept).

I did a quick search around and did not find your post in regards to this (mighta been buried somewhere inside a post as I skimmed) -- do you know which thread, or could you point me a link? I'll comment if I can ... What argument would you like me on the side of?

actually hardy, i don`t look at it as arguing, i thought this was a discussion forum and as such if you disagree, as is so often the case ,then i will expect you to be on the opposing side of the "DISCUSSION" and on the other matter ,i only asked if you had been away because i was curious ,it was a genuine question with no hidden agenda, sorry if i offended your delicate sensibilities.......

No, actually, the design will actually be modified to fit cars, but they will likely be either Hot-Wheels or Micro-Machine size. The motive power will be hand propulsion, as in paddling it along with your hands, like you might have done in a canoe as a kid... (At this point though, I don't know how much more far-fetched I can get with this. ;D)

sorry if i offended your delicate sensibilities....... Hey, this isn't the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club. None of us have "delicate sensibilities". ;D (I've been waiting to zing that line for a while now.... ;D) (the above is written in silly fun....another thing that sometimes happens on a discussion-forum). ps: Chandler, congrats on the child. Joey, Ross, Phoebe, Monica and Rachel must be so proud....

No no no .... not offended ... in quoting you "well then where were you when i was arguing with the attendant at the toll both??? tell it to them lol, btw i wrote that in october ,have you not been around???" .... I asked .... "which argument would you like me on the side of?" referring to what the QUESTION was that we are going to argue with the ATTENDANT about! :-) Sometimes the quotes and the forum don't seem to convey the message so well ... I wasn't offended, but I was puzzled -- what ORIGINAL point did I miss EARLIER and what was the disagreement/argument that I should be commenting/discussing?? Clear as mud now? hehehehe Please fill me in on what I was supposed to be commenting on so I can comment and or discuss!

If BC Ferries really does decide to throw a whack of cash into making the Queen of New Westminster the Grand Old Lady of the fleet, we might not see any more new major vessels on the south coast until well into the 2020s. Traffic is increasing very slowly, and continued fare increases will probably keep it that way. In that case, I'd like to see the 2010's dedicated towards building fast PO ferries, to accomodate more foot passengers without much increase in vehicle traffic. I can live with that.

Oh well, I guess that's just a pipe dream packed with old tar.

Thought this would be a more appropriate thread for this: The Queen of Alberni's cousin, Coastal Experience: What do you think?
