You already registered a guess of March 14, Political Incorrectness. Do you want to change it?

No I am going to keep my original. I just didn't realize I had already posted here.

We're looking for the date of the first sailing that carries paying members of the general public, not managers.

We're looking for the date of the first sailing that carries paying members of the general public, not managers. Does BCFS's have enough managers to fill the boat? Will they be able to allow them to use deck 5? Or are these sailings going to happen only if 500 unionized crew members take the bait and jump to the the ranks of management?

I posted this reply before I noticed that others had already replied. But being the proud satirist, I wanted to leave my reply, so here it is. The urge to use satire to respond to matter-of-factly comments is very compelling. =============================== We're looking for the date of the first sailing that carries paying members of the general public, not managers. It's so tough to tell when you're joking, or when you're serious. If that's a low-brow straight-man joke, then "good one". If you were seriously misunderstanding the "manager's" comment, let me explain: It was meant as meaning a MD sailing, ie. "manager's discretion", ie, the extra unscheduled sailing to relieve traffic pressure, usually on a friday night or sunday evening. ---------------------- (and now for some satire, meant for general enjoyment): Manager-only sailings (which will need the higher capacity ships for these, according to stats from the SOF campaign ) happen on Wednesday mornings from 10am-2pm, in the heart of the work day. Most of the managers will play the arcade games, and will have ice-cream-headache-contests with the soft ice-cream machine (how fast can you eat it, without inflicting pain). After the sugar/adrenalin rush occurs, they will brainstorm for new route deployment. If they have a route-chart with them, they can draw a straight-line from a route-2 location to Lyall Harbour.... ;D =====================

Oh right, on managers-only sailings, the managers party so hard they get stone drunk and trash the boat. Better use the Queen of Richmond for one of those; nobody'll know. ;D

They must have had a few parties on the Bremerton boats considering how Barnacle always complains of how trashed they are. Now we have an excuse. Thanks Fluge!

As noted in a different thread, BCFS is accepting reservations for the 3:00 p.m. on March 8 from DP to HB.

As we are still in February, so we can still enter, I will go with Kyle on this one. I was waiting for an announcement.

So will the winner of this 'guess the in service date' be those who have chosen March 8th? Or do we use the actual date that this vessel makes its first sailing with a load of paying customers with their cars aboard? Presumably that will occur prior to March 8th. I can't see them not doing a dry wet run or two with paying customers and their cars aboard prior to going 'live' with regular service on the CR.
Also, those 'guessing' March 8th seem to be perhaps benefitting from 'insider knowledge' just maybe?

Ms. Marshall mentioned March 8th to us as a possibility during the Nanaimo open house... that's all I went on.
In regards to "dry runs"... I don't think it will be necessary if the first trip is a Manager's Discretion run. With the PacifiCat Explorer, the first trip was announced, but wasn't part of the regular schedule. For two weeks, the PacifiCat Explorer just did extra runs to get the crews used to loading and operating her efficiently before she had her first breakdown a few days before she was intended to join the regular schedule. On the other hand, it seems from the reservations system that they're putting her on the regular schedule almost right away and moving the Cowichan to Route 30... so it seems she'll become a regular pretty quickly.

NEWS: The first unofficial official sailing will be on the 6th. It will be only one sailing and only one sailing on the 7th. She will go into service regularly on the 8th. That´s what I heard today...

I thought they may slip the odd sailing in before the official start on the 8th. Great news. Obviously putting cars on and testing all the systems under more lifelike conditions will be thre real test of staff and the ferry. Hopefully one of our crew can get onboard.
