Finally! I remember seeing that thing parked in the Ladysmith Harbour when I lived there. Are they putting it with the HMCS Saskatchewan and Cape Breton by Snake Island or what?

no. because i think BCFerries said something about people being able to watch the sinking from the pay parking lot @ Departure Bay

Me on my 'historical ships should be preserved' rant again.
Why the devil must they sink her? She's a beautiful boat. This is another example of taking a vessel which could be enjoyed by all and removing her to a position where only a select few can enjoy her.

The ex Rivtow Lion will be sunk at the North West side of Newcastle Island. If you are lucky enough to own a boat you may get the best views.

Hmm then it's definitly in Departure Bay. If your lucky, you could watch it from the ferry while it's in the dock ;D I wonder if BC Ferries will do anything like they did when they sunk Cape Breton by loading up Coquitlam and taking people out to get a closer look, but the only reason I didn't go was because I heard it costed an arm and a leg just for a ride out to Snake Island But that would be kinda pointless if they loaded up a ferry and took a bunch of people out to the otherside of the bay, oh but they could get one of the smaller ferries that isn't doing anything? someone said the Nimpkish isn't doing anything better and may as well do the Mill Bay run or something so they could get her if shes not busy on another route.

It was a very expensive but worth it $25.00 to go on the Queen of Coquitlam to watch the Sinking of the HMCS Cape Breton.
The Ferry and the Crew were donated by BC Ferries. The Money went directly to Nanaimo Dive Assosiation.
IT was realy cool. There were so many people on the side of the ferry that the Queen of Coquitlam was actually listing! I have never seen a ferry list like that before, and there was only 2 cars on the main Car deck.
There were 2 Kingston Class Navy ships and a Aurora Aircraft made a low flypast Pluss numerous other pleasure craft out.
( I should not forget to mention the Queen of New West passing and the mv Quinsam was spotted stoped in the water on her run)
We were also treated to free pop on the ferry.
Now because this tug will be sinking in Departure Bay within prime viewing opportunites from The Ferry terminal and other spots on the beach, I highly doubt anyone would go to the expense and bother of having a ferry used as a viewing platform.
I believe they want to sink the tug while the ferries are at sea, so that the ferries schedual wont be affected.
(Ps the PacificCat Explorer replaced the Coquitlam for 1 round trip on the sinking of the Cape Breton).

Looks like that tug is gonna sink any day now. On Tuesday she was still sitting in that old dock by the cement plant in Departure Bay, and when I was on the ferry leaving DPB on the ferry yesterday she was sitting at the Northwest Point of Newcastle Island with a few buoys around it.
