Does anyone remember when the Carrier Princess was owned by the C.P.R. ( she's owned and operated by seaspan now )? I remember back in the 70's she operated alongside Princess of Vancouver between Nanaimo and downtown Vancouver, carrying cars and passengers during the summer months or when B.C.F was on strike. She was quite unpopular with the general public, however, due to her very limited passenger space and amenities ( picture the Queen of Alberni with even less superstructure, no gift shop, no cafeteria, and less deck space ). No wonder C.P.R.'s passenger service was discontinued.

All I remember is seeing the Carrier Princess at some place in Delta along the river where she and another ship were docked. Only time I seen her else where was on the news during that big windstorm that the Queen of Alberni got caught in. Apparently a semi truck on the Carrier Princess overturned in the high winds and she was stuck in doing donuts in northumberland channel before returning to Vancouver. That's what I got from the news clip I have of that.
Her and the other ships were mostly truck ferries so they werent built for alot of passengers. But I thought it would be neat to go on the Carrie Princess just to see what it's like. Sort of looks like a bigger version of the Tachek.

ive been on the princess before. shes a nice vessel. not much in the way of passenger accomidations, but thats because shes very utilitarian, and her sister the princess superior has little or now passenger space at all, the other 2 Intermodel ships are the Doris, and the Greg.

Which ferry is that? Is that the one that docks over by where the Quisam docks to go to Gabriola?

The Coastal Express is the BARGE that sank. They built a Knew Barge the Coastal Spirit which is in use now. The Barge is pushed by the tug Seaspan Challenger, ex Hectate Crown making 2 round Trips between Tilbury on the Fraser river to Nanaimo. During week days. Other ships are the Seaspan Greg, Princess Superior, Seaspan Doris and another tug barge combo, The Seaspan Monarch.
