Man Rescued By State Ferry Crew Near Friday Harbor
April 30, 2006 By KOMO Staff
FRIDAY HARBOR - A man's life was likely saved Sunday night due to an alert crew on the MV Sealth ferry.
Police say the Sealth left Friday Harbor just after 8 o'clock when crew members noticed an inflatable boat going around in circles just offshore.
The ferry captain steered the ferry toward the inflatable to investigate and they found a man in his 30s unconscious in the water.
Crew members then launched a rescue boat and began CPR on the man. He was then airlifted to a hospital on the mainland. His condition is not known due to privacy laws.
Medics arriving at the scene said the water was cold enough that if the man had been in the water much longer he likely would not have survived.
The victim's name has not been released.
