Monday, October 18, 2004 Stena Boosts North Sea From Lloyd's List (www.lloydslist.com) STENA Line has inked a €100m order for two new ships for Netherlands to UK service. The shipowner said it planned to boost capacity on its Hook of Holland-Killingholme freight route by 80% from 2006, announcing that the twin ship order had gone to Norwegian yard Fosen Mekaniske Verksteder. The ‘Seabridger’ class ships, featuring 3,100 lane metres of capacity and 100 cabins to accommodate 200 drivers, will be built for Stena RoRo and are due to enter service one apiece in May 2006 and November 2006. The 212 m long, 26.7 m wide vessels will draw draught of 6.2 m and each come equipped with twin 10,800 kW main engines, to achieve speeds of 22.2 knots. Pim de Lange, Stena Line area manager North Sea, said: “We have been running at maximum capacity for the last three years, and customers have consistently been requesting an increase.” Carl-Otto Dahlberg, Stena RoRo managing director, said the latest Seabridger class would consume 40% less fuel per truck when compared to the last set of ships delivered by Fosen to Stena, the early 1990s vintage Stena Challenger and Stena Traveller. “We consider this very important at a time when we see that there is a lot of demand to lift trucks off the roads and on to sea transport,” he said. Interferry Which ones are these...?
