Get away from the TV kiddie and get into the real life which you probably have not yet experienced - and book a trip by Brittany Ferries No fun though, and this is the real life. Will cost the company some money to repair all the damages. news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/devon/5003520.stm

In defense of my comrade Karl: he has life experience, and lots of travel experience. He's not a "kiddie", he's one of the more mature posters on this forum.
I just wanted to point that out, in response to your comment.

OK I think next time I should mark this one with "attention - irony & sarcasm" It just sounds so - if we are talking about something that happened and one brings something on like "I´ve seen same in this or that movie"... Though, makes me chuckle how you defend your classmate

Do what you need to do, we all need something to laugh about though Although freak waves are not really funny and are the things that I hope I will never experience when doing a crossing.

You can start by crossing Hecate Strait on the Queen of Prince Rupert

Our European correspondents don't have to come here to experience open ocean crossings, but, granted, most of their vessels are probably more sea worthy than the rickety old 'Rupert.

I would cross Hecate Strait on the Rupert in a storm! That would be exciting!

Well, I cant blame you - you plan to travel in open water in a box on a 13 hour journey. Apparently, your one who seeks excitment - I seek calm waters. From previous expiriences, let me put it this way: Would you rather A) Cross the Strait of Georgia on the Queen of Tsawwassen while watching people lean over the edge with motion sickness; or B) have a peaceful crossing, and read the Financial Post while listening to your MP3 player, soon to fall assleep, and wake up docked in Tsawwassen? I would likely pick {B} for a reason which I cannot explain, I'm sure many other members would understand. But picking {A} is fine, Karl, If you like adventure, that is fine.

You got it! I like ferry trips in stormy weather. It's cool, well for me anyways.

I can´t decide which.. depends on the ship as well. I do not mind a calm crossing in summer, sit outside on deck, read in a book and get warmed by the sun. On the other side, I do not mind a motionful crossing, it´s cool to sit and watch the waves and feel the movement of the ship. Though, in such a case I hope the ship of choice is a spacious one and on a night-crossing - because everyone´s got a cabin and they usually go there to "be sick" instead of hanging around in the public areas and produce that certain stench. So, I dare to say I can enjoy both really, just no freakwaves please...

QB Teen: You're a teen ager, and you want to fall asleep on a ferry while reading the Financial Post? Good grief. Old age will happen soon enough. No need to rush it along.

I am sad to inform you that I do read the Financial Post, I watch CNBC, watch "Mad Money" (Irrational Investing) and have taken a peek into Jim Cramer's "Sane Investing in an Insanse World," I'm a fan of the NYSE, and will soon aply for a mini-portfolio account at the TSX... As for falling asleep, that was a little bit of sarcasm, however it does aply on late night sailings... I'm sorry if I scare some members on this board, but I can't help it. I feel this urge to act like I'm really old or something. Something like HornbyGuy expressed... Now if you'll excuse me, there's a new episode on Family Guy on in five minutes on Global...

QB Teen: Hopefully this fascination with corporate propaganda is just a phase you're going through. Just try to remember that publications like the Financial Post exist to spread the gospel of the rich and powerful, and not to serve the truth, or public good. At least you're reading one healthy source of discourse: this ferry thing.

The plate glass window that was blown in - could or should have with stood somewhere around 5metric tons of pressure per sq cm. In other words a hell of a lot of pressure before blowing out. So the force of that wave...is massive.... Treat the Ocean with care or it will bite you...very hard I don't like to see ships damaged, and I certainly don't want anyone injured or killed, but sometimes I think it's good when nature shows us we're not really as much in control of things as we think we are. No harm in being humbled a bit.

I admit I'm a very odd person (for my age at least). For example: I watch Family Guy, view Translink Schedules on their website, listen to Fifty Cent and Green Day, while I sit backand eat a cheeseburger (likely from A&W), read what's happening at Proctor&Gamble (in terms of Stockholder Value), and view ferry webcams.

No harm in being humbled a bit. Well, it´s true - on some North Sea and one Bay of Biscay trip I could feel the power of the sea, not so that anything got damaged, but so that you really learned to get a good respect for it´s power.

So, S-Queen, after all your travels in European waters, have you got a favorite ship/route/company? Is ferry travel an end in itself, or is it just the best way to get to where you're going? (Sorry if you've answered this already elsewhere)
