Is anyone interested in doing a trip on Snohomish while she's on her temporary assignment at Port Townsend-Keystone? I think it will be a unique, once-in-a-lifetime oppourtunity to travel on a WSF high speed passenger-only catamaran on a route that never before, and probably never will again, see passenger only service. I, myself, have never ridden the Snohomish or Chinook, so I am definitely jumping at this chance. Any takers?

I'd assume if one of the Rust-Electrics gets cleared for action sooner, there will be service restoration at that time.
But I won't wait up for that to happen, either.

It will definitely have to be sometime soon. I know the Port Townsend Leader article said that a Steel Electric won't return to the run until at least February, but I'd be willing to bet WSF can get one of the boats up and running sooner than that, so if we want this trip to happen, I would suggest it be sometime in December. I know this is a busy time for everyone, what with Christmas just around the corner. I'm available this weekend. After that, I'm not sure.

Nice pictures of both WSF and BC Ferries. It is selling for 35 dollars. I skip it, but will kick myself. I did buy the Dogwood Fleet. Those are awesome photos! Thanks for sharing. I'd love to go this weekend but the weather forecast is looking a bit dicey. I think I may postpone this one until the following weekend, on either the 8th or the 9th. If anyone is still interested in that weekend, maybe we can put something together. Thanks for the interior shots of Snohomish. I never knew what it looked like on the inside until now.

Thanks.....I am enjoy using my new Kodak Camera.
Some things to beware of. When docking remain seated. The M/V Snohomish hit the wing-walls a little hard.
They usually announced to remain seated while docking but they did not when we came back. They had some High school kid come back from a Basketball game. It hit the wing-walls like a Ping Ball Machine. Anyway thank goodness it was teenagers. Must be the action of thrusters. One thing I learn is it has four engines. Which really surprise me.
That about all............Emory ;D

Orcasnative: You can probably count me in for the following weekend. We have family visiting this weekend and the good chance of snow on Saturday would make it pretty tough going. I think the following weekend would work though.
Emory: Awesome pics of your travels on the Snohomish. Thank you for sharing!

I think they have change the schedule, at least they posted a new one. www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries/schedules/current/index.cfm?route=pt-keyCheck the wind, they cancel when it seems not that bad. Yesterday they cancel during Sea hawks last Quarter. The wind at Coupeville was only 20 mph. My wife said wouldn't be funny if we had to stay at a hotel in Port Townsend. Emory on South Whidbey

OK - it looks like I have a pretty busy weekend ahead of me, since I didn't get much done during this last one due to the weather. So, I am currently planning on doing the Snohomish trip Saturday morning (the 8th). It leaves Port Townsend at 9:00am, and the return sailing leaves Keystone at 9:35. Since I am coming from Poulsbo, I will park on the Port Townsend side. If anyone is game for this, and at this time, let me know. Otherwise, I will just solo it. Normally, I would have chosen a later sailing, but I have stuff to do later in the day, and on Sunday, as well.

Well, it looks like I'm putting this trip off, again! I'm now shooting for Saturday, Dec 15th. Sooo...If anyone is still interested in making this a group trip, this is the new date I think I have open. Otherwise, I might just make it a solo trip and take pictures. Happy Holidays, everyone!

Ok guys I am out on this one unless we delay until after Christmas or right after New Years. My move came up quicker than expected (QPR grumbling about landlords that are greedy) so we are packing this weekend and the movers come next Saturday! After that is Christmas and guess who's house it's at, lol (not complaining or grumbling about that though). Ahhh I am looking forward to landlords that aren't fake and actually follow through with what they do. Sorry that I can't make it but I am still planning to go even if it's by myself. Keep me posted on the dates everyone is planning for this trip. Thank you.

Everyone probably knows that the Snohomish is now going to Seattle from Port Townsend. Four trips a day.
If you want to do a trip, it might be good one for Sea Hawks home football game and play off game, or Christmas shopping.
I wonder if this will still be going on after they get their car Ferry for the Keystone route?? If it continues, a Mariners day game might be fun. ;D

It won't be. As soon as the Christine Anderson is available and operational, the Snohomish will return to tie-up.

Looks like people are using the Snohomish to go to Seattle on. Ridership is up in that direction. I always hope for more public transportation options. But I think that realistically, if you take out the people who are taking the boat as a novelty for now, you wouldn't get as many people on this run on a daily basis to fill a standard city bus. Could a PT-Kingston-Seattle service attract enough passengers to justify itself? That would be more likely. But didn't a Kingston-Seattle service fail at one time? (Gee, I would even suggest a Southworth-Vashon-Seattle route, if the route wasn't going to be part of Metro Transit soon.) I just think the route would need a bit more demand before someone would consider it for a permanent route.

You also have to bear in mind that the Snohomish, fuel-hungry as she is, is NOT a practical consideration for this route, and any other boat would probably take rather longer to get there.
As great as it would be to have a Mosquito Fleet again, the population won't go for it.

I did the Seattle - Pt. Townsend trip on 12/24. First part of the journey involved getting to downtown Seattle from Vashon. I took the 6:25, which normally only takes walk-ons at Vashon. This time, the boat arrived less than half-full so they took on cars as well. Then after an uneventful bus trip to downtown (arrived around 7:20 or so), I made a few stops to kill some time before the 8:30 sailing to Pt. Townsend. Here comes the Snohomish. I'm guessing a few dozen or so were on the trip from Pt. Townsend. Kitsap and Tacoma at Colman Dock. (I tried to get a 2'nd pic, but the <bleep> batteries died on me, so I had to change batteries ) Some scenes from the Snohomiosh... Matson Line cargo ship at the Bell St. Cruise Terminal (normally docks south of the other cruise terminal, but I'm guessing construction work there forced the ship to dock here instead) Heading north. As you can see, not a lot of passengers. Southern end of Widbey Island. Now arriving at Pt. Townsend. I spent the next few hours wandering around, stopping for lunch at the Lighthouse Cafe. Also made stops for hot chocolate and buying postcards and this: It's time to head back to the dock for the trip back to Seattle. Here comes the ferry. There were a lot of passengers on this trip. Snohomish and Klickitat After waiting awhile. it's time to get on. Sailboat goes by. This is what was added to the floater so the Snohomish could tie up at night. Time to head back. Newer Matson Line cargo ship. Royal Argosy. Now arriving at Seattle. The trip back to Vashon was uneventful (bus was rather empty).

Thanks fort he shots LB, better conditions that day than the day I went. In fact, at least you were in a more coordinated position with the Kaleetan! I had to run to get on that boat cause it comes so close to departure time when you arrive!

That's interesting that the passenger-ferry was designed to fit into the conventional vehicle docks.

Sort of designed... the bow extension was a tail-end idea. The Chinook never received her retrofit (the photos on eBay, at least the large one, was actually the Snohomish).
