So IF anyone is going on the Queen of Esquimalt again, I am BEGGING you to record the opening Welcome Aboard announcement as well as the safety announcement (Yes, the one's with the really annoying voice!) So if anyone could do that, I would be FOREVER in their debt ;D

Ok role call time. Who is all going?
I am most likely going and will be in the foot lounge by 2:45PM as I will be arriving by public transit. I propose we meet in the foot lounge. I will have a red/black pack with a big metal tripod sticking out one side. Now who else is going for sure?

Begging noted, Sean. Great idea as this could be the last announcement over the PA system with her name, let alone on the route, thanks for the suggestion. I will now certainly be doing atleast the last trip of the day, possibly of her in-service career with BC Ferries, aboard the Queen of Esquimalt on Saturday from Duke Point Terminal, remembering that the last two round trips don't sail on Saturdays this time of year these days. Before that I'll likely at some point getting photos of her power slide and departing Duke Point Terminal on Saturday, all are welcome to join so speak now or forever hold your peace. Consider this a call to everyone who wishes to sail and/or see quite possibly the last official day in service for the Queen of Esquimalt (last scheduled, atleast) with BC Ferries, first to be retired since the Queen of Victoria of the 'V' Class / Queen of Sidney and - as far as I can tell - only the third Philip Spaulding designed vessel on who's designs our fleet was built in the 1960s to be retired.

Like I said, I'm only sure that I'll be on the last sailing out of Duke; before then I'll be on one of the earlier sailings in the day, almost certainly, to capture images of the powerslide and departure of the ' Esquimalt from Jack Point Park.

Good morning Spaulding fans. I'm preparing now to be aboard the 7:45am sailing of the Queen of Albern in order to time my day right to capture in photographs the Queen of Esquimalt both arriving at - in powersliding glory - as well as departing from Duke Point Terminal as seen from Jack Point Park. If I don't see any of you on the route this morning, I can guess and hope that I'll see more than one of you on the way back this evening.

Well guys, you will get another opportunity to ride the Esquimalt...
Apparently she will be doing MD sailings on route 2 this Friday and Sunday. Once she has done these MD sailings, she will be prepped for sale...

So that means they replaced the diesel engines with a 2 giant wheels found in mouse cages and got 2 industrial mice to power her. Now those are some very big mice that squeak very loudly.
(this wtf post has brought to you by Coastal Skier's extremely tired brain...)

Yes, I did mean left sorry, So the Esquimalt will be doing the extra sailings out of DB and HB over the Spring Break? That means that the Coquitlam will remain on the Langdale run as #2 with the Surrey before she replaces the Oak Bay in April.

Because she will be used solely for MD sailings, there is no set schedule. At this time, it will be a wait and see game on vessel tracking and CC to determine what time she will leave. I will see if I can find out more info on her approximate sailing times though... And yes, they definitely would be round trips...

I'm planning on being in Vancouver anyway on Sunday, so that would be a good day to do it. I might just go hang around Horseshoe Bay and see if she sails in.

...we need to see how fast we can get a bunch of people together to do a trip. ... No offence to any new ferry fans (sorry to use your quote, Ernie, it's the principle I'm speaking to and I realize how great a fan of the ' Esquimalt you are) but I think this line demonstrates well, * if it had been from any other fan than millbay * , the true colours of anyone who pretends to be more of a fan of historic vessels and yet chooses to be at the media event sailing of a new vessel when the supposed last sailing of such a venerable one as the Queen of Esquimalt is taking place while the new vessel will soon simply become a way of life and the very soon-to-be retiree would never see service again. 'Tis the way of life, eh?

'Tis the way of life, eh? Like the old saying goes... you don't know what you got till it's gone. I don't know if I'm a bigger fan of the Esquimalt or not. The way I see it, is it's a chance to experience something that may soon be impossible. I was sorry that I missed out on the group trip a couple weeks agao, and I was just maybe hoping to not be alone in this. I was not at the recent media event sailing or the concurrent last sailing of the Esquimalt due to logistical reasons. And, I don't know how much pretending there is in it, but I don't believe that there is anything that hyprocritical in being more partial to the older things while still showing an interest in the present as well. Basically, for me, it comes down to wanting to be able to share in the experience with others. On my own I don't know how much I'd dedicate time to making a trip on the Coastal Renaissance 'just for fun'... but in the appropriate group context, I would still participate because that makes it more meaningful than just the ferry by itself.

Still waiting to hear a briefing from those who took the Esquimalt on Saturday! Sorry for the delay, I've been busy including taking a day-off yesterday in order to photograph presumably the last day of the Queen of Vancouve passing a 'Spirit' class vessel in Active Pass - let alone the chance of it being the last day to see any 'V' Class pass an 'S' Class in Active Pass - from Galiano Island. As for yesterday, I was fortunate enough to be offered a ride to the Bluffs in time to catch the Queen of Vancouver passing. Long story short - I'll be posting about it soon enough - I walked down to the Georgeson Cemetary just past Georgeson Bay (below Mount Galiano) on Active Pass and then back upto the Bluffs before catching the evening return trip of the Queen of Nanaimo back to Tsawwassen Terminal. As for Saturday, it was as I hoped any last ride aboard such a venerable ship could be, and I feel that still despite her sailing a few more MDs on Route 2 this coming weekend. I set off from Tsawwassen Terminal aboard the 0745 sailing of the then Duke-based Queen of Alberni in order to time my day right. It was nice to pass the Queen of Esquimalt about halfway in the Strait of Georgia, though I was aboard our latest retiree more for the sake of timing. Arriving at about a quarter to ten in the morning I was able to hike to the actual point the terminal is built on, Jack Point, and capture both the Queen of Esquimalt and the [/i]Queen of Alberni[/i] both arriving at and departing from Duke Point Terminal in photographs. Though forced (twist my rubber arm ) to wait until a 1830 sailing from Duke after hiking during the pleasant sunset to the terminal, I quite enjoyed being aboard her last-ever Route 30 sailing, close enough to her last in-service for my taste. For my published images of my day, see here: www.ferrypicsbygraham.fotopic.net/c1330099_262.htmlFor video/audio clips of her horn while departing Duke and a crew-announced that seriously surmised this as her possible trip (The obviously appreciative bridge officer can be forgiven for getting the birthday of the Esquimalt off by one year later of course) see:

I was sorry that I missed out on the group trip a couple weeks agao, and I was just maybe hoping to not be alone in this. Thanks for not trying to make me feel alone in my use of your words, thanks for allowing me to use them despite knowing my interpretation of them wasn't your intended inference. I too will be turning out for one of the last sailings, either Friday if anyone else needs that to be the day or Sunday in order to catch our venerable Queen of Esquimalt's 'very last sailing' and any before it if popular opinion dictates. Let's gather to mark our venerable lady's passing on the very same day (or two before if necessary) that is last in her life with BCFS

So what are we doing. We gonna spend the whole weekend at a ferry terminal waiting for a chance that the Esquimalt will do a MD sailing or 2. Sorry folks, I may be a fan of the ferries and the history they have with this province but I also have a live. Gonna take the lady friend out catskiing for her first time this weekend. I'll be at Baldface
