So what are we doing. We gonna spend the whole weekend at a ferry terminal waiting for a chance that the Esquimalt will do a MD sailing or 2. Great to hear that you're as much a fan of nautical history as us, thanks for posting. As a secondary note, please refrain from insults on our forum, implied or not, even despite how superior you might feel compared to us true ferry fans.

I am trying to convince my mom on Sunday to do Esquimalt HSB > DPB then (if she doesn't return) CR DPB > HSB.

I will be out there tomorrow afternoon if possible... I won't ride her, I'll just be out there for photos.

It is called having a life that has other important issues other than thinking about ferries every single moment of the day. I am sure that a lot of people on this forum would agree with me that yes the ferries are neat and of interest but there is other things more important in life. For me that more important thing is earning a living as a backcountry ski guide and avalnche course conductor Retro (graham) you seem to be the only one who has issues with the comments that i make from time to time with reference to having other things going on in life other then the ferries.

Retro, a few months back, I chastised you for what I felt were intemperate remarks you made to another forum member.
I hereby wish to withdraw my objections to your remarks.
Anyway. Some of us probably have conflicting feelings about the dear old 'Esquimalt. I know, she's one of the old originals (sorry, I can't refer to our Canadian built boats by their American designer's name), and I have always really liked their 'lines', and profiles. They've served us so well for so long, and I really hate that the Canadian character of our fleet is changing, perhaps forever. I've ridden them many times, though, and I guess my fascination with them kind of wore off some time ago.
I'll miss them, but, I can't think of a single aspect of the actual on board experience that I'll miss, compared to the new boats. (It hurts to say that, but it's true.) The 'Esquimalt is a dump. It never was finished off inside, and through age and neglect, it really seems to have run it's course. I hate trying to thread my big pig of a car onto the Vs' narrow cardeck lanes. Their will be very few people outside the 'ferry fan fraternity' who will miss the old boats once they ride the new ones.
That's not to denigrate the Vs, and I certainly understand why people want to take one last ride. At the least, it looks like we'll have the 'New Westminster for a good many years, so we'll still be able to get our dose of 'classic' single ender when we need it.

I seem to have ruffled some feathers here with a few remarks of mine. I will be the big man that I am and apologize for any feather ruffling I may have caused. I stated an opinion that is my opinion. I do think some people do get a little carried away with some issues. I am the kind of person who will go after that. I am also the kind of person that can notice if I caused an issue. So now back to the intended purpose of this thread.

The weather may be a determining factor for me on Sunday... I don't mind if it's cloudy, as long as it's not wet. If it is nice I might try for getting some photos, if it is wet, I might just wait for a crossing and hibernate inside the ferry somewhere. Aside from that, I know I'm gonna feel really iffy about the cost of all this driving out to Vancouver. Money is kinda short, but I guess an old ferry is somewhat worth the effort.

What is the rumored time for the MD sailing on Sunday? I don't think I have the energy to go to HSB > DPB then do a round trip on the Esquimalt then DPP > HSB. Anyone other mainlanders going to do the roundtrip on the Esquimalt?

What is the rumored time for the MD sailing on Sunday? This is a good question, thanks Trevor. I managed to miss the actual departures and arrivals list on BCFS's website but mere minutes so I'm relying on you all to fill in the blanks, so when did she sail today? This might give a good picture of what she'll do on Sunday. I'm still very much dedicated to catching atleast one of her sailings on what we can only guess is her very last official day in service.

She did a roundtrip sailing starting at 1:05 from Departure Bay.
I will see if I can find out more info later today on the MD sailings that are planned for her on Sunday...

BCFC should put out a Service Notice "Queen of Esquimalts final day of Service."

I went down on FRiday to see her, don't think she left Nan until about 1.40pm, she arrived in Vancouver for about 3.45pm; leaving at 4.25pm. I will have photos up in a few minutes.

BCFC should put out a Service Notice "Queen of Esquimalts final day of Service." Obviously BCFS should do a whole lot of things they don't do according to us, their owners. She did a roundtrip sailing starting at 1:05 from Departure Bay. I will see if I can find out more info later today on the MD sailings that are planned for her on Sunday... According to DBP there is likely a MD sailing. Who's going from HSB side? Then we can all meet up.

Ya I did. Complete fluke. I was just calling the switch board since they would have the best info.
Off topic: Scott can you get MSN updated or something your not showing up for me.
On Topic: any other chance for the Esquimalt?

NO, the Esquimalt is not sailing at 1:40... Any word as to why not? At 3pm, the 5pm out of HSB is almost full!

No cars were left over from the 12:30... There was a possibility to still have her sail at 4:30 as she had a crew on her, but that obviously never happened...
I guess Friday will go down in history as the last day of service for her. Now she will spend her last of her days sitting in Langdale prior to her sale...

Could see about the group being able to sail with her from Departure Bay to Langdale?

What are the chances that they would actually do that?

Slim to none.
More crew would have to be brought in, plus there would be some liability issues.
I just happened to run into Mill Bay today at Horseshoe Bay this afternoon while I was waiting for my new laptop to be outfitted. He was waiting for the Esquimalt to arrive at Horseshoe Bay, but it never happened. We at least got to watch the Queen of Surrey arrive at Horseshoe Bay from Deas, and pull a 180 degree turn just outside of the bay.
